W. Paul Prince - Vice Chairman - District 9

A lifelong resident of Loris, Paul Prince is a self-employed businessman, who presently manages several commercial rental properties he has accumulated over the years. He and his wife, Carolyn, have been married 39 years, and they have five children and eight grandchildren.

Paul was elected to serve on County Council from January 1983 through December 1992, and January 2002 to present. He currently serves as Vice Chairman and is on the Infrastructure & Regulation Committee. In the past he has served on the Public Safety Committee and the Administration Committee. During his 20 years on County Council, he has been instrumental in implementing county-wide rural fire, EMS, the Emergency 911 System, and Solid Waste and Recycling Centers. In recent years, all aspects of public safety, such as police and fire departments and emergency medical service, have been expanded and improved. Funds have been secured for the pavement of numerous miles of dirt roads, with more planned to be paved in the future. We have new and improved parks and recreation facilities throughout the county.

As an active member of Loris First Baptist Church, Paul's enthusiasm to serve stems from a heart that loves the Lord and follows Christ's example of service. He believes that service to humanity is the best work of life, and he has spent most of his life helping other people.

Following are a few examples of his missions and community service:

  • Went on mission trips with the SC Disaster Relief Team:
  • Helped put roofs on houses in Homestead, FL, after hurricane Andrew.
  • After the flood in Albany, GA, helped strip out the inside of flooded houses so they could be restored.
  • Helped with food distribution in McClellanville, SC, after hurricane Hugo.
  • Currently serves on the Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments.
  • He has been serving for 45 years on the Loris Volunteer Fire Department and is a first responder.
  • He is a member of the Loris Civitan Club, the Loris Merchants Association, and the Loris Chamber of Commerce.
  • He has been a working member of the Loris Athletic Boosters Club for over 40 years.

Paul was a four-sport letterman in high school and has always loved sports and been involved in them, in one way or another, for most of his life. He helped organize recreational programs in Loris, becoming a certified football and basketball official for the S.C. High School League, and he played semi-pro football with the Dillon Redskins for several years. He was also a volunteer youth coach for the city recreation league and the school athletic programs—coaching baseball, basketball and football for 24 years.

During a term as president of the Loris Jaycees, Paul led the Loris chapter to being named number one in the state of South Carolina. In addition, Paul was awarded a lifetime Jaycee International Senatorship, the highest honor in Jaycees. He has always sought to promote the best interest of the great citizens of Horry County, and would like to help make our county a healthier and safer place for our families, so we can pass on a better Horry County for our future generations.
