Carl Schwartzkopf - District 8Carl Schwartzkopf was elected to Horry County Council in a special election to fill the remainder of the term of the previous councilman who was elected Chairman. He was sworn in January 2, 2004. Since that time he has served on the Infrastructure and Regulation committee and has been the chairman for the last five years. Also, he has served on several sub and ad-hoc committees, the Economic Development Corporation for three terms and two as its vice-chairman. Prior to being elected, Carl was a college professor at Coastal Carolina University and Horry Georgetown Technical College teaching golf course management. During his academic career he authored three books related to golf course management. Carl has been a resident of Conway since August of 1990. After arriving in Conway he has been active in his church as a lay-assistant, usher and former church council member and an active member of the home owners association in his neighborhood. Before moving to Conway he lived in Crystal Lake, Illinois and Far Hills, New Jersey as a member of the U. S. Golf Association staff. He is a U.S. Navy veteran whose tour of duty included service prior to the Cuban missile crisis to the Viet Nam conflict. Carl received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Michigan State University. He is an avid sports fan and loyal supporter of Spartan activities and involved in the alumni association. |
