- The Hospitality Fee department is responsible for collecting,
depositing, and auditing all businesses affected by the Hospitality Fees for Horry County.
Audits are performed, when necessary, to assure proper accounting and collection of fee
revenues. Field audits are regularly performed to ensure compliance of existing and new
businesses. The department provides the State with detailed accounting and monthly deposits
in compliance with the Comprehensive State Road Plan (State Infrastructure Bank-SIB). The
Hospitality Fee also provides funding for Public Safety areas, as well as funding to the
Horry County Public Works Department for other local infrastructure needs.
- What businesses are required to collect Hospitality Fees?
Businesses subject to the Horry County Hospitality Fee are as follows:
- preparing or modifying food or
beverages (including alcoholic beverages)
- providing accommodations to transients
- the collection of admissions to places of amusement
- providing short term rental of private passenger motor vehicles.

- What businesses are required to have a Horry County Business License?
An Horry County Business License is required of every person engaged or intending to engage in any calling,
business, occupation or profession within the unincorporated areas (outside the city limits) of Horry County
and is required to pay the annual license fee. If your business is subject to an Horry County Business License,
please call the Business License Department for more information.

- My business is seasonal. Do I still need to send in the remittance forms when my business is closed?
Yes. Report zero income on the remittance forms for all months the business is closed. Forward the forms to
the Hospitality Fee Department. A consolidated form for several months can also be sent.
- I mailed my remittance on the 20th, why did I get a penalty?
Your remittance must be postmarked by the U.S. Post Office by the 20th. Postmarks are not necessarily put
on your envelope the day you place it in the mailbox. It may be delayed until it reaches the sectional center,
or may be stamped the next day if the Post Office has already closed out for the day. To be sure, ask the
postal clerk to hand stamp it with the date you are mailing it.
- I only rent once or twice a year. Do I still need to collect Hospitality Fees?
Yes. If you handle your own rentals and the renter stays less than 90 days, you will need to collect Hospitality Fees.
- I rent to someone year round. Do I need to collect Hospitality Fees?
No. If you have a renter that stays 90 consecutive days or more at the same physical location, that rental is not
subject to Hospitality Fees.
- I sold my business, what do I need to do?
You will need to fill out the Business Change-Notification Form and forward it to the Hospitality Fee Department.
- I am going to be in Horry County for a one time event. Do I need to collect Hospitality Fees?
Yes. If you are collecting admissions or selling prepared/modified food or beverages you will need to call the
Hospitality Fee Department to set up an account.
- Why do some businesses pay Horry County 1.5%, 2.5%, or 3% Hospitality Fees?
All businesses County wide are subject to a rate of 2.5%, with the exception of businesses that provide
short term accommodations. If your business is located in the incorporated areas (within the city limits)
of the County, you will be responsible to collect 1.5% Hospitality Fee for Horry County and 1% for the city you
are located in. If your business is located in the unincorporated areas of the County, you will be responsible
to collect 2.5% Hospitality Fee for Horry County. If your business provides short term accommodations and the
property is located in the unincorporated area of the County, you will be responsible to collect an additional
0.5% local accommodations tax, for a total of 3%.
- If I rent a vehicle to someone while their car is being repaired, do I need to collect Hospitality Fees?
Yes. If you rent a private passenger motor vehicle to the same patron for less than 90 consecutive days, you will
need to collect Hospitality Fees.
- I rent rooms, short term, to various people throughout the year. What amount of Hospitality Fees do I collect?
If your rental property is located in the unincorporated areas of the County, starting May 1, 2002 you will be
responsible to collect 2.5% Hospitality Fee and 0.5% local accommodations tax, for a total of 3%, for Horry County.
If your rental property is located in the incorporated areas (within the city limits) of the County, you will be
responsible to collect 1.5% Hospitality Fee for Horry County. You will need to contact the city your property is
located in to set up an account and to remit the appropriate city fee(s) due.
- The County and State RIDE project will provide funding for the following:
- Veterans Highway (22) - A fully controlled access facility from U.S. 17 [the bridge at Briarcliffe complete with interchange at U.S. 17] to U.S. 501 between Aynor and Conway. The facility will consist of six-lane fill/bridging/paving between U.S. 17 and Carolina Bays Parkway, four-lane fill/bridging/paving between Carolina Bays Parkway and S.C. 90, two-lane fill/bridging/paving between S.C. 90 and U.S. 501, with diamond interchanges at U.S. 501, S.C. 319, U.S. 701, S.C. 905 and S.C. 90.
- Carolina Bays Parkway (31) - A fully controlled access facility, six-lane fill/six-lane bridging/four-lane paving from S.C. 9 to U.S. 501, including the Central Parkway connector crossing the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway to U.S. 17 Bypass [four-lane fill/four-lane bridging/two-lane paving].
- S.C. 544 - Five lanes from the U.S. 17 Bypass to U.S. 501.
- The remainder of the County RIDE project includes a series of interconnected highway construction and road
enhancements that will improve the overall transportation network in Horry County. This may include:
- S.C. 544 - Five lanes from the Socastee Bridge to U.S. 501. The portion of this project required by Horry
County to bring this project to completion above and beyond the commitment by the South Carolina Transportation
Infrastructure Bank.
- U.S. 501 - Frontage road system between the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and Forestbrook Road, intersection
improvements between Forestbrook Road and the Waccamaw River, and an overpass at George Bishop Boulevard/River
Oaks Drive.
- Central Parkway - Four lanes from the Central Parkway connector (between 48th Avenue North and 62nd Avenue
North) to Harrelson Boulevard (in the vicinity of the Myrtle Beach International Airport).
- Fantasy Harbour Bridge Interchange - Four-lane bridge/interchange that will create the final leg of what is
to be called the Metropolitan Loop, which includes Central Parkway, George Bishop Boulevard, and River Oaks
Drive and Extension.
- Conway Perimeter Road - Four lanes from U.S. 501 on the west side of Conway to U.S. 378.
- Intersection/Interchange Improvements - Along S.C. 90 between Conway Bypass and S.C. 9, S-31, S-66, and
U.S. 17 Bypass.
- The imposition of the 2.5% Hospitality Fee is broken down as follows:
the revenue generated from the 1.5% of the Hospitality Fee is strictly for
the Horry County RIDE Plan (Road Improvement Development Effort) in
conjunction with the State program. The revenue generated from the 1%
Hospitality Fee shall be to offset the cost of providing public safety
and public works services, and infrastructure directly impacted by tourism.
Of the revenue generated from the additional 0.5% increase on accommodations,
50% is designated for public safety, 30% is for tourism advertisement and 20%
is for beach renourishment.
