Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the process for getting someone released from jail?
If a person is charged with a crime, such as a traffic violation, which has a cash fine, that person can be released from the Center upon payment to the Magistrates Office. Persons charged with crimes classified as felonies normally have higher bonds. Most bonds are set by the Magistrate as cash or surety bonds which requires the person to deposit cash with the court or place real property up as collateral. *Note: Each case or charge is different; therefore, the amount or type of bond depends upon the type of charge.

A bondsman may assist with this process for a fee; however, the Center will not make any recommendation or provide contact information for any specific bonding agency or agent.

  • When is visitation?
  • What is the Medical Procedure for inmates?
Effective October 2, 2011, Southern Health Partners (SHP) will assume control over all medical operations for the JRL Detention Center.

    See » Inmate Medical Procedures
  • What can I bring an inmate?
The Center will accept prescription medication, prescription eye glasses, and money. This can be brought to the Center Monday through Friday anytime between 8 am and 8:00 pm. daily (Medication can be brought anytime).

Cash may be deposited to an inmates account in the kiosk in the vestibule of the Administration Building any time the lobby is open.

Common Terms

  • Bond: Amount of money or real property collateral which must be posted to a Magistrate and/or Clerk-of-Court to gain a persons release from the Center.

  • Work Credit: In most cases inmates who are sentenced and serving time at our minimum security building can receive a 2 for 1 credit against their original sentence. This means an inmate can get two days off his/her sentence for every day he/she works on detail.

  • Good Time Credit: Credits automatically given to inmates sentenced to 90 days or less (or Family Court) which entitles them to a deduction in their sentence of one day for every two days served, beginning on the day of sentencing. Good time credit is subject to disciplinary forfeiture.

Interesting Facts

  • The Center was opened October 9, 1989.
