The Uniform Patrol Bureau is the entity responsible for the physical 24-hour delivery of police services throughout the
unincorporated areas of Horry County. The Bureau has 88 sworn officers with the day-to-day operational command comprised
of one major, one captain, one administrative lieutenant and one administrative sergeant.
The Patrol Bureau is composed of street side uniformed officers assigned to either: The Uniform Patrol Section is the Department's first line of contact with the public. It is divided into four (4) squads consisting of 1-Lieutenant, 2-Sergeants, 1-corporal and 13 sector officers working a rotating 12- hour shift. This section provides the most basic of law enforcement tasks, as well as performs operations maintenance committed to a safe community including: The beach patrol section of the Patrol Services Bureau is responsible for the beachfront areas of the unincorporated areas of Horry County. The section consists of 1-Sergeant, 8-Beach Patrol Officers and 1-Beachfront Director. Beach patrol officers drive 4-wheel drive patrol vehicles that enable them to perform their duties on the soft sand. In addition, they patrol on 4-wheel ATVs during times of high tide and when the beach is congested with swimmers and sunbathers. Jet skis and jet drive boats are used to patrol the coastal waters and in rescue situations. In addition to being a state certified officers, beach patrol officers receive specialized training in ocean life guarding, CPR-PR, personal watercraft operation, first aid and participate in open water training throughout the season. The third section of the Patrol Services Bureau is the mobilization team; the team consists of 1-Sergeant and 6-patrol officers. This section is charged with conducting pro-active law enforcement tactics and augmenting the uniform patrol section in areas that may be experiencing unusual crime trends. In addition the team is responsible for the inspections of establishments applying for alcohol licenses, business licenses and wrecker rotation. Officers wishing to transfer to the Mobilization Team must have at least two (2) years of law enforcement experience, one of which must be with the Horry County Police Department. |
