Purpose and Functions
- Horry County Council established the RIDE II Committee (Road Improvement and Development Effort) on April 17, 2001.
The committee is tasked with the duties of providing advisory input to the Horry County Council and state government regarding
road improvement efforts in Horry County. The committee also makes recommendations that will ensure continuation of road improvements.
The RIDE II Committee consists of 11 voting members and one ex-officio, nonvoting member. The voting members were appointed as follows:
- A chairman appointed by the Horry County Council Chairman;
- Two members appointed by the League of Cities;
- Two members appointed by the Legislative Delegation;
- Two residents of Horry County residing east of the Waccamaw River;
- Two residents of Horry County residing west of the Waccamaw River;
- One member at-large appointed by Horry County Council; and
- One member appointed by the RIDE II Committee Chairman.
- The Chairman of the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) shall serve as the ex-officio, nonvoting member.
- The RIDE II Committee meets with various local and state agencies in discharging its duties, which include:
- Reviewing the status of ongoing projects;
- Identifying the additional road needs of Horry County (both state and county roads);
- Studying potential funding sources, both available (SCDOT, Infrastructure Bank, etc.) and new sources;
- Formulating solutions to problems s part of a long-term plan; and
- Updating Horry County Council on a regular quarterly basis.
