ALERT
Beginning September 15, 2009
Wilderness Lane Reconstruction to Begin
Horry County will begin reconstruction of Wilderness Lane off of Longwood Drive (Blackmoor). Sections of Wilderness Lane may be closed intermittently throughout this project. Areas with only a single point of access will remain open; the only sections to be closed will have alternate access points. The project is expected to take approximately four weeks depending on weather. The project begins approximately 0.3 miles south of Longwood Drive and ends at the end of County maintenance in front of the Wilderness Plantation Subdivision. Drivers are encouraged to drive with caution until the project is completed.

MOSQUITO SPRAYING SCHEDULE
October 5-8, 2009
Horry County will begin mosquito spraying, weather permitting, in the following areas:
  • Popular
  • Homewood
  • Brown Swamp Aerial spraying will be conducted in the evenings usually between 7 p.m. - dusk and ground operations from 7 p.m. - 11 p.m. Monday - Thursday.

Although the chemical used for spraying, Malathion, is common and poses little risk to humans or animals, officials recommend that residents bring children and pets indoors and windows and doors be closed during spraying. In addition, homegrown fruits and vegetables should be washed, scrubbed, and/or peeled before eating.

To help keep our honeybee population safe, beekeepers are urged to contact Horry County Mosquito & Spraying to identify the location of their colonies. In addition, citizens with concerns, complaints, or those requesting spraying in their area can also contact Horry County Mosquito & Spraying at 915-5174.

  • Horry County and its surrounding areas will receive more than $900 million worth of road construction by 2004. For detailed project information, visit the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

Several of the projects are already underway, while many more will begin in the next few months. Overlapping construction schedules may cause some congestion, but the end result will be new roads and a much-improved transportation network.
