- Five firefighters from Horry County Fire Rescue will be competing at the World Firefighter Combat Challenge in Las Vegas, NV, November 14-21, 2009.

Geo Call is a public safety notification system based on geographic boundaries using the county's geographical information system. Reuben Long Detention Center has encountered overcrowded conditions and has entered a major capital expansion because of increased and continued demand for incarceration services. This program will assist to abate future detention center capital expenditures and expansion. - This week, the Horry County Assessor's Office will mail approximately 25,000 assessment notices to property owners who have transferred property ownership in 2007, based on a state law that was passed last year requiring the county to re-appraise those properties. This state law has been referred to as Assessable Transfer of Interest (ATI) and Point of Sale.
