Update on Escaped Inmate Charles Ransom On Monday, November 21, 2011, at approximately 5:00 p.m., inmate Charles Dwight Ransom was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center after presenting himself to staff as another inmate by the name of Nathaniel Mack Martinez. Bond was posted Monday afternoon for the release of Nathaniel Martinez. Martinez was aware that his bond had been posted and removed his armband identification and gave it to Ransom. When an employee arrived at the housing unit to escort Martinez to the booking for release, Ransom responded and was escorted to the release area and was processed out . . . more |
Theft of Stormwater Grates and Manhole Covers on the Rise Over the last couple of weeks, over 70 manhole covers were reported stolen in the county. Not only is this theft, but it creates a major public safety hazard for motorists and pedestrians. The public is encouraged to call the police if they see suspicious activity in their neighborhoods and report any missing manhole covers in the county to the Horry County Road & Drainage Hotline at 381-8000. | Statewide Copper Theft Bill Goes into Effect August 17 and Pre-Registration Begins August 10 - In June, Governor Nikki Haley signed House Bill 3660, commonly known as the Copper Theft Bill into law, which will go into effect August 17, 2011. Under the new law, any person wishing to transport and sell any non-ferrous metal including copper and catalytic converters to a scrap metal dealer in Horry County must first obtain a permit from the Horry County Sheriff's Office.
