South Precinct

The South Precinct provides a full range of emergency-response and public safety services.  This precinct is designed to help prevent crime and enforce the law in a manner that makes residents and visitors feel safe in their homes, schools, businesses, and neighborhoods of this community.  Precinct personnel can respond to situations they view while patrolling the streets of Horry County, as well as work on solutions where there has been long-standing neighborhood concerns.

The South Precinct Office is located behind the South Strand Complex at 9630 Scipio Lane, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 29588.

Airport

The Horry County Police Department's Airport Division is comprised of one Sergeant, two Corporals, twelve officers and two explosive canines.  These officers are attached to the Airport and provide Law Enforcement functions on all airport property, which includes four General Aviation Airports (3,200 acres in total) and one Commercial Airport.  They must be cognizant of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rules and regulations, and enforce the security requirements as mandated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  They patrol the grounds of the airport with vehicles, bicycles and by foot.  They provide traffic enforcement at all County Airports as well as respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls at these facilities. Their primary function is the protection and safety of the general public as they traverse through the airport.  Officers are on duty 24 hours a day and each year the Airport Division officer's come in contact with over three million passengers.

Beach Patrol

The beach patrol section of the South Precinct is responsible for the beachfront areas of the unincorporated areas of Horry County. The section consists of 1 Sergeant, 2 Corporals, 8 Beach Patrol Officers, 2 Parking Enforcement Officers, and 1 Beachfront Director. Beach patrol officers drive 4-wheel drive patrol vehicles that enable them to perform their duties on the soft sand. In addition, they patrol on 4-wheel ATVs during times of high tide and when the beach is congested with swimmers and sunbathers. Jet skis and jet drive boats are used to patrol the coastal waters and in rescue situations.

In addition to being  state certified officers, beach patrol officers receive specialized training in ocean life guarding, CPR-PR, personal watercraft operation, first aid and participate in open water training throughout the season.
