Judge Ward was elected as Horry County Probate Judge without opposition in the general election on November 4, 2014.
Kathy G. Ward, daughter of the late Troy Gasque and the late Miriam Richardson Gasque, is a lifelong resident of Horry County.
She began her service in the Horry County Probate Court in January, 1981 as the Court Reporter for the Honorable W. C. Floyd and was appointed Associate Probate Judge by the Honorable Carolyn L. Wright in January, 1987. Judge Ward resigned her position as Associate Probate Judge in March, 2014 in order to become a candidate for Probate Judge.
She won the primary election on June 10, 2014 and was elected as Horry County Probate Judge without opposition in the general election on November 4, 2014. Judge Ward was re-elected as Horry County Probate Judge without opposition on November 6, 2018.
She is a member of the National College of Probate Judges and the South Carolina Association of Probate Judges. She was formerly appointed by the Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court for service on the Statewide Probate Court Judges Advisory Committee and has served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the South Carolina Association of Probate Judges. Judge Ward currently serves as the Horry County Drug Court Judge.
