BRENNAN CAVANAGH - PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER
Brennan Cavanagh graduated Elon University in 2014 and worked as a reporter at WBTW. She moved to Greenville, SC where she worked as an anchor for the local NBC affiliate. Brennan returned to the Grand Strand in 2019 after getting married, and was hired by WPDE as the assignment editor. Brennan joined the Sheriff’s office in 2021. She has three daughters, Gracie, Ellie and Palmer.
SCAM ALERT
The Horry County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone
to be vigilant with phone calls claiming to
represent the sheriff’s office with an active
warrant for your arrest for failure to pay taxes or
noncompliance with jury duty. The caller may ask you
to bring them certified funds, a money order, or a
cashier’s check, and may threaten you or use
coercive means to convince you to comply. The Horry
County Sheriff’s Office will never request money
from you over the phone and any calls of this nature
should be reported to the sheriff’s office
immediately at (843) 915-5450. If you are unsure of
the nature and legitimacy of the call, please do not
hesitate to contact the sheriff’s office.
FOIA REQUESTS
The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act
(FOIA)
provides access to certain public records to South
Carolina citizens upon request (see
South Carolina Code of Laws Section 30-4-15
). The Horry County Sheriff’s Office does not actively share or release any personal
information about an individual except to comply
with an applicable law or legal process, or to
protect the personal safety of the community or the
general public. However, because the Horry County
Sheriff’s Office is a public entity, some
information may be subject to release through the
South Carolina Freedom of Information Act.
The Horry County Sheriff’s Office reserves the right
to deny requests for information from those who are
not citizens of South Carolina.
Any person and/or entity seeking access for review
or copies of records, documents or materials from
the Horry County Sheriff’s Office under the South
Carolina Freedom of Information Act, must complete
and submit, with applicable fees, the Sheriff’s
Office
Freedom of Information Act Request Form or
Freedom of Information Act Request Form 911/CAD .
Applicable fees:

$0.15 per page (8.5" x 11"/single-sided/black and
white)
- $25 per hour for staff time
-
$10 per file for E911 audio MP3 format (additional
$5 for a CD) - NOTE: Audio is kept for a period
not exceeding six (6) months
- $15 per file for video DVDs
Payment must be made by
cash, certified check, money order, or company
check made payable to Horry County Government
