Waccamaw River FCSA Signing Begins Flood Risk Study

Horry County and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District will sign a Feasibility Cost Share Agreement to study flood risk management of the Waccamaw River tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Multipurpose Rooms of the Horry County Government and Justice Center. The purpose of the study is to determine if there are feasible and cost-effective measures to reduce the risk of flooding impacts to communities in the watershed, with a focus on Horry County where significant flooding has occurred in recent years.  This cost share agreement allows the Federal government and the County to invest equally in this $3M study to find ways to address a complex flooding problem that will benefit South Carolinians locally and regionally.

Upcoming Software Upgrades for the Assessor's Office

The Horry County IT/GIS Department, in partnership with our outside provider, will be making upgrades to the County's computer assisted mass appraisal software. Among other functions, this program is the County's automated system for maintaining property data.

The upgrades will begin on August 1, 2022 and for the next 30 to 45 business days, users could experience delays on our GIS and Land Records applications, particularly with regard to ownership information. The Assessor's Office will have access to the updated information, but there could be a lag in the information syncing with the public facing programs.

The majority of our community will not notice any difference while these updates are being made. Our offices are working closely with customers that frequently access this information, such as real estate appraisers and closing attorneys, to provide them with assistance while these upgrades are underway.

As with any such process, we are prepared for the possibility for additional testing and system adjustments and ask for your patience. If you have questions about a property in our system, email landrecords@horrycounty.org.

Upcoming Road Closures & Construction Updates

Motorists in all road construction areas should use caution, stay alert for crews working in the area, and pay attention to all signs and traffic control devices.

Upcoming Road Closures & Detours: Postal Way Extension

Weather permitting, intermittent road closures and detours are expected to continue at the intersection of Renee Drive and Carolina Commercial Drive. These closures will allow crews to install the required drainage structures and realign the intersection. We urge drivers in the area to slow down, pay attention to all road signs, and drive cautiously to keep our crews safe.

These closures will continue through the remainder of the Postal Way Extension road construction project. The project is a part of the RIDE III Program US Highway 501 Corridor Improvements. The project includes the extension of Postal Way easterly to Waccamaw Pines Drive with the installation of intersection improvements and sidewalks.
