Traffic Pattern Shift for Old Socastee Highway/Old Railroad Bed Road

Conway, South Carolina– The US Highway 17 Bypass and SC Hwy. 707 Interchange Project includes a permanent traffic pattern shift for Old Socastee Highway/ Old Railroad Bed Road. The construction for this shift will begin on Monday, December 2, weather permitting.

A cul-de-sac will be constructed on Old Socastee Highway approximately 100’ south of the old intersection of Old Railroad Bed Road and Old Socastee Hwy. This work will eliminate the stop sign on Old Railroad Bed Road at Old Socastee Highway, thereby creating a safer and more functional facility. There will still be a 4-way stop condition at Fred Nash and Emory intersection.

Once under construction, this project is estimated to take approximately three days to complete.

The Martin-Edwards Farm Designated as a Century Farm

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Planning & Zoning Department has been notified that the South Carolina Century Farms Program has designated the Martin-Edwards Farm in Horry County as a Century Farm. The farm was purchased by the family in 1902 and has been continuously owned by the family since then.  James Edwards of Aynor currently owns the Martin-Edwards Farm.

The Century Farms Program was created to honor families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least one hundred years. The program was created in the 1974 for Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties.  In 1976, the South Carolina Legislature expanded it into a statewide program. Since 1974, over 350 properties have been designated as Century Farms.

The Pendleton District Commission, in Pendleton SC, administers the Century Farms Program.  This designation places no restrictions on the farm, nor does it offer legal protection and there is no cost to apply.  For more information please contact the Commission at 864-646-3782 or
