Stormfest 2014

Conway, South CarolinaHorry County Emergency Management, the City of Myrtle Beach and the National Weather Service will host StormFest 2014 on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Field, home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. This event is free and open to the public.

This family-fun event will feature storm and safety related displays/booths to include Horry County and Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue, the American Red Cross, the Children’s Museum of South Carolina, Horry County Solid Waste Authority, Horry Electric, and the Coastal Waccamaw Stormwater Education Consortium and more.

Displays will be located throughout field and will feature apparatus from Horry County and Myrtle Beach Fire Departments, the Horry County Animal Care Center adoption trailer, Myrtle Beach Police Beach Patrol vehicles, the Horry County Bomb Squad and much more!

Kid activities will be scattered throughout the park and will include thumbprint bookmarks, beanbag toss, meet the lineman (children can get in the Horry Electric truck bucket with a hard hat and parents can take their pictures), Myrtle Beach Fire safety room, playground, bounce houses, and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ mascot, Splash, will even make an appearance!

Horry County Amateur Radio Operator Wins Award

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County Amateur Radio Emergency Coordinator, Matt McGuire has won the South Carolina Emergency Management Association’s (SCEMA) Amateur Radio Operator of the Year for 2014. Mr. McGuire was first licensed in 1995 and has been the Amateur Radio Emergency Coordinator for Horry County since 1996. He created a robust and sustainable amateur radio program within Horry County that has greatly benefited the county and municipalities. Matt’s network of amateur radio operators supports the county Emergency Operations Center, regional hospitals, and hurricane shelters. With Mr. McGuire’s considerable assistance, Horry County Emergency Management secured a federal grant to procure essential equipment to improve communications. He has also worked closely with hurricane shelters, created amateur radio kits for each shelter and continually trained himself and other amateur radio operators. Matt McGuire’s dedication to Horry County and his willingness to volunteer is exemplary.

Mr. McGuire was nominated for the SCEMA recognition by Horry County Emergency Management.

Jersey Mike's Subs Partners with SOS Health Care and Horry County Project Lifesaver

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County and SOS Health Care are joining forces with Jersey Mike’s Subs throughout Horry County during the month of March for the “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign. Funds will be utilized to purchase Horry County Project Lifesaver Wristbands for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder & Alzheimer's. The campaign will culminate in a community event, “Spirit Knight”, on Wednesday, March 12, at Jersey Mike’s in Myrtle Beach (2602 North Kings Highway). Stop by and show your support!

During the month of March, customers can make a donation to SOS Health Care’s Project Lifesaver Program at all seven Jersey Mike’s Subs in Horry County.

“Jersey Mike’s Subs is doing their part to provide for the safety of our loved ones with Autism and Alzheimer’s”, said Monique Clement of the SOS Health Care. “This fundraising effort will provide the equipment necessary to supply more people with Project Lifesaver Tracking Wristbands assuring their recovery if they go lost or missing. Thank you Jersey Mike’s for giving us the opportunity to protect our loved ones. Please do your part and visit a Jersey Mike’s store. You can make the difference!”

On March 26, “Day of Giving” will take place at Jersey Mike’s restaurants nationwide to benefit 86 different charities. All seven Jersey Mike’s Subs locations in Horry County will donate 100 percent of their proceeds to the SOS Heath Care Project Lifesaver Program. Also on March 26, several representatives from SOS Healthcare, Inc., and Horry County Public Safety will be visiting all seven Jersey Mike's stores throughout the entire day to thank Jersey Mike's Subs for supporting such a great cause for our community!

“Giving…making a difference in someone’s life” has been the mission of Jersey Mike’s from the beginning. Just since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised more than $5 million for worthy local charities like SOS Health Care, and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.
