Horry County Legacy Business Recognition

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Board of Architectural Review’s new Legacy Business Recognition Program will recognize Palmetto Chevrolet May 7, 2014, at 1 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Palmetto Chevrolet began as Lee’s Chevrolet in 1930, and became Palmetto Chevrolet in 1942, making the dealership 84-years old! Palmetto occupies multiple historic buildings and is an icon in historic downtown Conway.

The Horry County Legacy Business Recognition Program pays tribute to local businesses that have contributed to the economic heritage of Horry County for more than 50-continuous years.

Palmetto Chevrolet is located at 1122 4th Avenue in Conway. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

2014 Annual Horry County Historic Preservation Awards

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Board of Architectural Review will hold their annual Historic Preservation Awards May 20, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at the new Horry County Museum, 805 Main Street, in Conway.

The awards ceremony will showcase historic preservation efforts throughout Horry County during the last year. All properties that were designated as historic between May 2013 and May 2014 will receive a certificate acknowledging the honor. Also being recognized:
  • The Horry County Museum for the Burroughs School Building
  • Ted & Connie Grag for the South Carolina Civil War Museum
  • Rich Ryals for his volunteer work on the Horry County Cemetery Project
  • Lou & Rhonda Mascherino for the Veteran’s Café
  • Yaupon Garden Club for naming the Horry County Patriot Tree Project
  • Students from the Academy of Arts, Science and Technology for their participation in the annual High School Historic Sites & Structures Video Contest

Keep Horry County Beautiful May Cleanup Projects

Conway, South Carolina – There are many opportunities in May to support and get involved with Keep Horry County Beautiful. Please wear closed-toe shoes for all cleanup events.

Saturday, May 3, 2014, 11 a.m.- Loris Nature Park-The Chicora Indian Tribe of South Carolina, in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful, will host a cleanup of the Loris Nature Park, located on Lions Road in Loris. Trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and pickup sticks will be provided. Contact Chief Clyde Strickland for more information:

Saturday, May 10, 2014, 9 a.m- Port Drive Cleanup-The Harbour Towne Home Owners’ Association, in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful, will host a cleanup along Port Drive near the intersection of Highway 17 Bypass and Socastee Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. Saturday, May 17, 2014, 8 a.m.– Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup-Captain Smiley Fishing Charters and area businesses, in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful, will host the 3rd Annual Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup. Participants will meet at Johnny Causey Landing in Little River at 8 a.m. All are encouraged to bring their boat or kayak to join the effort. No boat, no problem! Trash bags, gloves, and pickup sticks will be provided. Participants should bring sunscreen, bug spray, a hat. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to volunteers. Saturday, May 17, 2014,10 a.m.– Bucksport Road Cleanup-The Distinguished Men of Bucksport, in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful, will host a cleanup of Bucksport Road. Volunteers will meet at the James R. Frazier Community Center on Bucksport Road at 10 am. Trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and pickup sticks will be provided. Saturday, May 24, 2014,11 a.m.- Socastee Park and Yacht Basin-The Chicora Indian Tribe of South Carolina, in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful, will host a cleanup of the Socastee Park and Yacht Basin, located under the 544 Bridge off of Peachtree Road. The Keep Horry County Beautiful Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except October and December. The next meeting is May 27, 2014, at 2:30 PM in Multi-purpose Room B of the Government and Justice Center located 1301 2nd Avenue in Conway. RFP Selection for Surveillance Camera Equipment

Conway, South Carolina – Recommendations will be made to County Administrator Chris Eldridge by the Evaluation Committee regarding Request for Proposals (RFP) 2013-14-074 for surveillance camera equipment. The recommendation will be made on Friday, April 25, at 8:30 a.m. in the Administrator’s Conference Room at the Horry County Government and Justice Center, 1301 Second Avenue in Conway.


RFP Selection for Portable Toilet Unit Rentals & Services

Conway, South Carolina – Recommendations will be made to County Administrator Chris Eldridge by the Evaluation Committee regarding Request for Proposals (RFP) 2013-14-089 for portable toilet unit rentals and services. The recommendation will be made on Thursday, April 24, at 8:30 a.m. in the Administrator’s Conference Room at the Horry County Government and Justice Center, 1301 Second Avenue in Conway.
