Keep Horry County Beautiful Litter Cleanups

Conway, South Carolina – The Keep Horry County Beautiful Committee announces a volunteer opportunity for people or organizations interested in assisting with upcoming litter cleanups in our community. Trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and trash grabbers will be provided.

Saturday, February 6 – Dunn Shortcut Road – 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.  Join the residents of Wood Creek, along with members of The Refuge and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as they pick up litter on Dunn Shortcut Road in Conway.  Meet in the parking lot at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 450 Dunn Shortcut Road in Conway.  Contact Courtney Burge for more information.

Friday, February 12 – Carolina Forest Boulevard & River Oaks Drive– 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. - Join Beautify Carolina Forest Group in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful for the cleanup of Carolina Forest Blvd and River Oaks Drive.  Meet in the parking lot at Carolina Forest Recreation Center located at 2254 Carolina Forest Blvd in Myrtle Beach. The next meeting of the Keep Horry County Beautiful Committee will be held January 26, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the Government and Justice Center located at 1301 Second Avenue in Conway. Saturday, July 11, 2015, 8 a.m. – Carolina Forest Boulevard – The Carolina Forest Sunrise Rotary will clean up litter along Carolina Forest Boulevard (from Hwy 501 to Carolina Forest Elementary School).  Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. in the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet parking lot located at 2100 Oakheart Rd in Myrtle Beach.  Contact Elizabeth Howland at 843-591-1125 for more information. 

Saturday, July 18, 2015, 8 a.m. – Bucksport Road – The Distinguished Men of Bucksport in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful will clean up Bucksport Road in Bucksport.  Please meet at 8 a.m. at the James R. Carolina Forest Boulevard Construction

Conway, South Carolina – Beginning Monday, July 7, 2014, Horry County will begin construction of turn lanes on Carolina Forest Boulevard. The project will start at the Walker’s Woods and Southgate subdivisions then move to the Avalon subdivision and finally on to the Summerlyn subdivision and Horry County Recreation Center/Library facilities. Speed limits will be reduced in the construction areas. Work requiring lane closures will be done at night. Electronic message boards will be placed along Carolina Forest Boulevard to inform motorists.

Depending on weather conditions, the work is expected to take approximately 4-months to complete.

Know Your Zone Town Hall Meeting

Conway, South Carolina –Horry County Emergency Management will host several town hall meetings for the public on the Know Your Zone hurricane evacuation zones.

Bucksport Area – September 10 at 6:00 p.m.

Bucksport Library, 7657 Highway 701 South, Conway

Carolina Forest Area – September 18 at 6:00 p.m.

Carolina Forest Recreation Center, 2254 Carolina Forest Boulevard, Myrtle Beach

There are three hurricane evacuation zones, which incorporates more land mass and requires additional people living in those areas to leave during certain hurricanes based on surge inundation instead of category of storm.  It will be important for every resident to know if they live in a hurricane evacuation zone and what to do when asked to leave. Residents can visit the Horry County Emergency Management’s website at http://emd.horrycounty.org/ to view the hurricane evacuation zone maps and related information on how to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.
