CONWAY, SC – As the snow, ice, and cold weather continues in our community, many of the lakes and ponds in our area become frozen over. The ice on these bodies of water can be an attraction to children and adults, unfortunately, there is no such thing as safe ice in our community. Where a lake or pond may have a coat of ice, the ice is not strong enough to support body weight. We ask you to stress to your children, as well as those they play with, to please stay away from this ice to prevent a tragedy from occurring.
If someone does fall through the ice, we remind you of these safety tips:
If you would like additional fire or life safety information please contact Mark R. Nugent, Public Information Officer for Horry County Fire Rescue, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
