Bay Road Update

The Bay Road drainage and safety improvements are moving steadily towards completion.  The county’s contractor will be on the road over the next couple of weeks to complete the grass shoulder widening, asphalt milling, and final road resurfacing work.  Expect intermittent single lane closures during this time.

This project is improving safety along the road by widening the shoulder and by creating much flatter side slopes along the roadside ditch.  In addition, approximately 1,200 linear feet of guard rail will be installed at the edge of the new shoulder as shown on the attached map.

We anticipate that all paving work will wrap-up by the end of March, and the guard rail will be completely installed approximately one to two weeks after paving is complete, weather permitting.

As we finish the remainder of the project, we ask drivers in the area to slow down, pay attention to traffic control devices, and look out for crews working along the roadway. Stay tuned to our website at horrycounty.org and our social media feeds for updates!

Horry County Continues Planning for COVID-19 Impacts

Horry County Government continues to monitor updates on the COVID-19 virus and plan for possible impacts within Horry County. The Horry County Emergency Management Department is in close contact with local and state governments, agencies and stakeholders and is following guidance from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Horry County at this time.

Currently, the County is in a planning phase for possible impacts from the COVID-19 virus and is developing contingency plans to keep core functions of government and public safety operational should conditions change within Horry County. This is in line with guidance from state and federal partners. Such plans also include the potential for limiting public hours at County buildings and offices, the cancellation of County sponsored events, and the closure of County offices.

County officials remind residents and visitors to practice proper risk reduction measures including:
- Frequent hand-washing (at least 20 seconds)
- Using hand sanitizer regularly
- Coughing and sneezing into the crux of one’s elbow
- Avoid touching your face
- Staying home when sick

County officials will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with our local and state partners.

If you have questions regarding the virus itself, please visit the SCDHEC website or the CDC website, or call the SCDHEC Care Line at: 1-855-472-3432.

Bay Road Update

BAY ROAD UPDATE

The Bay Road drainage and safety improvements are almost completed. At this point, we anticipate these road improvements will be completed by the end of March, weather permitting.

The heavy construction and daily road closures on this project are substantially complete. Pavement repairs (patching) are also complete, and the county’s contractor has now started to widen the paved shoulder before they begin their work to build up the asphalt, which will create a slightly banked roadway along the curve. The road resurfacing and restriping will be the last major work item.

This project is improving safety along the road by widening the grass shoulder and by creating much flatter slopes along the roadside ditch.

As we finish the remainder of the project, we ask drivers in the area to slow down, pay attention to traffic control devices, and look out for crews working along the roadway. Stay tuned to our website at horrycounty.org and our social media feeds for updates!
