Horry's Heroes: Joshua M. Jaward Hero for June 2019

Conway, South Carolina – In an effort to recognize the many United States military veterans in Horry County, the Horry County Veteran’s Affairs Office has begun a monthly recognition program entitled “Horry’s Heroes” in which a veteran will be featured on the County’s social media platforms each month.

All honorably discharged veterans (active duty, reserve, retired and/or deceased) from 1900 to present are eligible to be featured. All that is needed is a picture and basic information.

The veteran of the month for June 2019 is US Navy Aviation Electronics Mate Joshua M. Jawad of Horry County. Joshua has served at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, “A” School in Pensacola, Florida and most recently at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He likes to recount the story of being hand selected to fly to the USS George Washington (CVN-73) where he met a Senator and the Commandant of the US Marine Corps. The Senator was amazed when he saw a catapult launching an aircraft and he says that he will always remember the Senator’s expression!

For more information or to feature a hero, contact the Horry County Veteran’s Affairs Office at (843) 915-5480.
