Mark Nugent Named New Public Information/Public Education Officer for Fire Rescue

Conway, South Carolina – Mark Nugent, will become Horry County Fire Rescue’s new Public Information/Public Education Officer. Nugent has been the Emergency Services Coordinator for Middlesex County, Virginia, and is scheduled to begin work on July 10.

Nugent has a 40-plus year career in Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and Emergency Management. Over the years he has built a skill set in team-building, project management, educational program development, and establishing positive community, corporate, and media relations. Nugent’s career includes 35-years with Chesterfield Fire and EMS Department in Virginia, where he last served as Battalion Chief.

Nugent received his Masters of Public Administration from Columbia Southern University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management and Development from Bluefield College in Virginia.



Outdoor Burn Ban Issued for Horry County

Conway, South Carolina –Horry County Government has initiated an outdoor burning ban effective immediately for unincorporated Horry County.  This ban will remain in place until further notice.

The ban has been placed due to low relative humidity and wind speeds.  Outdoor burning is strictly prohibited until during the ban and such burning if it occurs would be in violation of law.

Outdoor Burn Ban Lifted

Conway, South Carolina –Due to improved conditions and effective immediately, the outdoor burning ban for all unincorporated Horry County has been lifted. Horry County Fire Rescue will continue to monitor conditions and may re-impose the ban at a later date if conditions deteriorate.

Horry County Government has a policy allowing it to institute an outdoor burning ban whenever there's a statewide red flag alert or if weather conditions appear conducive to wildfires.
