Opportunities to Support Keep Horry County Beautiful

Conway, South Carolina – There are many opportunities in April to support and get involved with Keep Horry County Beautiful (KHCB). April is Zero Tolerance for Litter Month and April 22, 2014, is Earth Day.

On April 12, KHCB will be participating in StormFest from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Stadium. StormFest is a free, family-friendly severe weather awareness and preparedness event focusing on kids through interactive/hands-on activities while also providing adults with brochures and guides. This event offers attendees the ability to meet face to face with the National Weather Service, public safety agencies, military and non-profit organizations, local TV meteorologists, and local businesses regarding local natural hazards and vulnerabilities.

On April 19, KHCB will assist the Waccamaw Riverkeeper with RIVERSWEEP beginning at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers will meet at the Conway Marina and maneuvering kayaks on the Waccamaw River as they pick up litter and debris. Join KHCB starting at the Conway Marina or at one of the adopt-a-landing sites if you so choose to help clean up our river. There will be a roll-off container at the marina for trash or each group can drop off debris at the closest Convenience Center. Earth Day Music Fest will begin at Riverfront Park at 11a.m. Stop by and visit Riverkeeper and KHCB there as well.

KHCB will participate in HTC Green Fair again this year. The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 24, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the HTC building on Hwy 501 across from Horry-Georgetown Technical College at 2201 Highway 501 North in Conway. Come by and learn more about KHCB and other groups that are working hard to protect our environment. Bring your old telephone books to recycle.

Ocean Bay Middle School will host its annual Earth Day at the Bay Event on April 26 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This event is geared towards youth and helping them learn more about how to protect the environment.
