Keep Horry County Beautiful Seeks Beautification Partners

Conway, South Carolina – Keep Horry County Beautiful (KHCB) and the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s (SCDOT) Adopt-a-Highway Program are seeking volunteer groups to adopt and maintain the landscaped medians along Highway 17 Bypass from Glenns Bay Road to the Garden City Connector.  Since 2003, Adopt-a-Tree partners ‘Lou Krieger and Friends’ and ‘Cumulus Broadcasting/Sunny 106.5’ have planted and maintained over two-dozen landscaped beds with palm trees, crape myrtles, river birches, and a variety of bushes and flowers.  These long-standing volunteers are no longer able to maintain the landscaping. To ensure that the medians continue to look beautiful and so that they do not become a maintenance concern for drivers and SCDOT, Keep Horry County Beautiful is seeking the assistance of volunteers.  Volunteers will be responsible for trimming the trees and bushes, mowing directly around the landscaping, and removing any landscaping debris at least four times a year for two years.  SCDOT will continue to mow the grassy areas of the medians.  Keep Horry County Beautiful will support interested volunteer groups by providing them with safety vests, gardening gloves, and trash and yard bags.  The volunteer group or groups will also have a sign erected to recognize them for their efforts.   For more information on how you can become involved in this project and other beautification efforts, contact Nancy Tindall with Keep Horry County Beautiful at 843-915-7893.

The mission of Keep Horry County Beautiful is to inspire residents and visitors to value and protect the natural beauty of Horry County and to empower them to keep the open spaces, rivers, and beaches clean and litter free. The committee strives to achieve this goal by assisting community groups with litter cleanup events and beautification projects.  Keep Horry County Beautiful is a committee of the Horry County Parks and Open Space Board and an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and Palmetto Pride.
