Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Government Wellness Committee is excited to announce the First Annual International Drive Road Race. The event takes place on April 29, 2018, and features a 5K, 10K, and 1 Mile Kids Fun Run. Both the 5K and 10K courses will be USATF certified and sanctioned. Participants are able to compete in both the 5K and 10K with the top 1st-3rd overall male and female runners receiving cash awards. Each participant receives a finisher medal. Registration for all three races is now open, and fees currently range from $5-$30. Registration fees include a high quality t-shirt, a finishers medal and refreshments at the finish line. Fun Run participants have the option of purchasing a t-shirt.
Wellness Committee Member John Bodner has been heading up the event and says, “We are excited about the first year of this race and look forward to seeing the race grow and continue each year.”
Black Dog Running Company is managing the event. Second Wind Race Timing will be the official timing company. The 5K and 10K courses will use chip timing devices attached to the participant bib to record each runner's time.

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County Government has initiated an outdoor burning ban effective immediately for the unincorporated areas of Horry County. This ban will remain in place until further notice. The ban has been placed due to the extreme fire danger as a result of the low relative humidity and increased wind speeds. Any and all outdoor burning, included permitted burns, are strictly prohibited during the ban, and those involved in any open burning would be in violation of the law.

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Board of Registration and Elections will conduct a routine test of the 650 Scanner used to count absentee ballots on Election Day, January 2, 2018. The test will be held Friday, December 29, 2017, at 9 a.m. at the Horry County Registration & Elections Office located at 1515 4th Avenue in Conway.

Conway, South Carolina –Horry County Government is proud to be a part of the 2017 US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign once again this year. Donation boxes will be available at the following County offices:
The US Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program distributes new, unwrapped toys to needy children ages 0 -12 years old in Horry County.
Boxes will be at the above locations by Friday, December 1, 2017, and Horry County will collect toys until December 19, 2017.
Please note that Horry County is NOT a distribution point and cannot take requests for toys. Requests to receive toys through the program should be directed to the local Toys for Tots website.

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County HOME Consortium will hold community meetings to obtain input into the development of the Horry County HOME Consortium Consolidated Plan, which affects the program and funding for housing and community development projects from 2018 to 2022. The purpose of the meeting is to receive public comment on the housing needs within the HOME Consortium region.
The community is asked to participate:

Citizens, community representatives, and nonprofit organizations are invited to attend these important meetings to offer comments on the housing and community development needs of the Consortium and to make recommendations for the types of activities to be undertaken to address those needs.
If any non-English speaking persons or persons with mobility, visual or hearing impairments wish to attend the public meetings and have special needs, or who have any questions, please notify the Horry County Community Development Office at 843-915-7033 in advance so that appropriate accommodations may be made. It is the policy of Horry County Government to assure that no person shall, on the grounds of race, color, national origin or sex, as provided by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise discriminated against under any of its federally funded programs and activities.
