Horry County Hires New Public Information Officer

Conway, South Carolina—Horry County names Kelly Moore as the new Public Information Officer. Her first day is Monday, November 13, 2017.
Moore grew up in South Carolina. She is a graduate of Clemson University and holds a Master of Public Administration from the College of Charleston. Moore served as the Audience Development Manager at North Carolina Stage Company in Asheville, North Carolina and most recently as the Public Relations and Event Coordinator with the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in Charleston, South Carolina.
Moore’s responsibilities will include releasing information about County initiatives and updates. She will also manage the website for Horry County.  “I’m excited to be joining a great team,” says Moore; “I look forward to helping citizens engage with Horry County.”


Horry County Board of Registration & Elections to Conduct Scanner Test

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Board of Registration and Elections will conduct a routine test of the 650 Scanner used to count absentee ballots on Election Day, October 24, 2017. The test will be held Friday, October 20, 2017, at 9 a.m. at the Horry County Registration & Elections Office located at 1515 4th Avenue in Conway.

Mosquito Spraying Schedule For September 28, 2017

Conway, South Carolina-Horry County will conduct mosquito spraying, weather permitting, in the following area: 

  • September 28 – Old Altman Road at Highway 90 area 

Aerial spraying will be conducted in the evenings usually between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and dusk, weather permitting (Wednesday, September 27 is the alternate date in the event of inclement weather).  
The chemicals used for mosquito control spraying are approved by the EPA and pose minimal risk to humans or animals.  Individuals with asthma or other respiratory illness may wish to stay indoors and close windows and doors during spraying.  In addition, homegrown fruits and vegetables should be washed, scrubbed, and/or peeled before eating.
To help keep our honeybee population safe, beekeepers are urged to contact Horry County Stormwater to identify the location of their colonies.  In addition, citizens who need to request spraying in their area can contact the Horry County Road & Drainage Hotline at 843-381-8000.

Horry County Reminds Citizens to Complete Survey

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County Government would like to remind residents to participate in The National Citizen Survey™ (The NCS™). The survey is designed to provide a baseline of how Horry County is serving residents, to gauge perceptions of the county and to make comparisons with peer counties/cities. A random sampling of 3,000 households chosen for the survey should have already received packets and can respond either with the provided pre-paid envelope or by the unique link in the mailing.  The survey process is totally confidential and will assist Horry County in future planning.

Legal Residence Application Now Available Online

Conway, South Carolina - The Horry County Assessor’s office is pleased to announce that filing an application for legal residence no longer requires the taxpayer to visit the office. The Assessor’s website now has a fully electronic application that can be completed from home or on a mobile device.  Taxpayers will need to know their Property Identification Number (PIN), which can be found on their tax notice, and have the ability to either scan and attach the documentation or take a clear photo from a mobile device. These documents will then need to be attached in the program to complete the application. 

To access the application, users can go to the Assessor’s website, choose the blue Legal Residence Application button and follow the prompts. For assistance or additional information, contact the Horry County Assessor’s Office at (843) 915-5040.

Taxpayers unable to submit applications via the internet may still apply in person at the Horry County Assessor’s Office located at the Olin Blanton Building, 1201 21st Avenue in Myrtle Beach or at the Horry County Government & Justice Center, located at 1301 2nd Avenue in Conway.
