Conway, South Carolina – Horry County will be kicking off the new year with a rewrite of its Comprehensive Plan. Municipal and county governments use comprehensive plans to guide future growth and public services. By state law, comprehensive plans are required to be rewritten every ten years to ensure that development and policy occur in a way that is consistent with the desires of the community. Over the last decade, Envision 2025 has served as the guiding document for growth in unincorporated Horry County.
The development of Horry County’s new comprehensive plan, IMAGINE 2040, will initiate in January. An ad hoc committee of the Horry County Planning Commission has been established to steer the development of the plan. The IMAGINE 2040 Steering Committee will meet for the first time on January 4, 2018, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Horry County Government and Justice Center located at 1301 Second Avenue in Conway. The Committee will begin the visioning process for the future of Horry County, which will also be formed by public input that will begin during the months of January and February.
Horry County citizens are encouraged to participate in one of the following IMAGINE 2040 Open Houses. These public meetings will inform the community of the planning process and provide an avenue to guide the vision of the plan. The meetings will be held on:

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Animal Care Center will hold a vaccination clinic, January 9, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the animal shelter located at 1923 Industrial Park Road in Conway. The Clinic will offer the following services:
Dogs and cats are both welcome; dogs must be on a hand-held leash and cats must be in a pet carrier.
The Animal Care Center also holds low-cost spay/neuter clinics. These clinics are open to all residents of Horry County for pet dogs and cats. The cost for cats is $50 ($20 for residents receiving government assistance) and dogs are just $80 ($40 for residents receiving government assistance). Contact the Horry County Animal Care Center at 843-915-5172 for more information or to have your pet spayed/neutered.
To help homeless animals in Horry County find loving homes, the Animal Care Center will offer discounted adoptions the first Friday and Saturday of each month. Adoption fees are discounted and typically include spaying/neutering, vaccines, heartworm or leukemia testing, heartworm and flea preventative, intestinal parasite treatment and microchipping. Qualifying new pet parents also get 30-days free pet health insurance and coupons from local pet businesses.

Conway, South Carolina – All Horry County offices, other than public safety operations, will be closed on Monday, January 1, 2018, in observance of New Year’s Day. Regular courts may be in operation in the Horry County Government & Justice Center and all jurors, witnesses, etc. will be required to be present.
