Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Board of Architectural Review’s Legacy Business Recognition Program will recognize two North Myrtle Beach businesses March 5, 2019. At 9 a.m. a ribbon cutting will be held at the Ocean Drive Barber Shop, and another will be held at Boulineau’s at 9:30 a.m. The ceremonies are free and open to the public.
Ocean Drive Barber Shop was opened in 1952 with Bobby Lewis and his brother operating it for almost 50-years. When Bobby’s brother retired, his friend Kevin Armstrong moved from Charlottesville to work alongside him. Bobby has cut hair at this barbershop for almost 60-years. The state of South Carolina identifies this shop as one of the longest operating barbershops in the state.
Boulineau’s started when Frank and Louise Boulineau opened a grocery store in the community of Cherry Grove Beach in 1948. In 1954 Hurricane Hazel destroyed most of Cherry Grove, including Frank and Louise’s grocery store. A second store was opened a few years later and after several expansions, the unique store now features 85,000 square feet with shopping on two floors.
The Horry County Legacy Business Recognition Program pays tribute to local businesses that have contributed to the economic heritage of Horry County for more than 50-continuous years.
Ocean Drive Barber Shop is located at 233 Main Street, in North Myrtle Beach, and Boulineau’s is located at 212 Sea Mountain Highway, in North Myrtle Beach. For more information, contact Lou Conklin, Senior Planner with Horry County Planning & Zoning at (843) 915-5340.
