Early Voting Now Open in Horry County

Early voting is now open in Horry County for the upcoming June 14 Primaries.  

Following a recent change in state legislation, in-person absentee voting has now been replaced with a two-week early voting period. Any voter can visit an early-voting location in their county and vote like they would at their polling place on Election Day.

  • Early-voting for June Primaries:
    • Tuesday, May 31 – Friday, June 10 (closed on Saturdays and Sundays).
    • 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
    • Locations in Horry County:
      • Voters Registration and Elections Office
      • North Strand Recreation Center
      • South Strand Recreation Center
      • Carolina Forest Library
  • Early-voting for June Runoffs:
    • Wednesday, June 22 – Friday, June 24.
    • Same hours and locations as Primaries.
  • Bring your Photo ID (or voter registration card if you do not have a Photo ID).

Project Update: Augusta Plantation Interchange

Join Horry County Councilmember Bill Howard and other local officials on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 10 a.m. on-site at the end of Revolutionary War Way to receive an initial project update on the Augusta Plantation Interchange.

The event will be held at the end of the unpaved portion of Revolutionary War Way, outlined below on the map in the yellow square. There is no access to this area from Highway 31. Parking will be available near the paved portion of Revolutionary War Way, with golf cart shuttle service available. The parking area is indicated on the map as a blue circle. Please note, there are no restroom facilities available on-site, but attendees are welcome to use the facilities at Carolina Forest Recreation Center.      

Media note: Members of the press will be able to drive their vehicles to the end of the drive for the event. Alternatively, the shuttle service will be available.

Upcoming Road Closures & Construction Updates

Motorists in all road construction areas should use caution, stay alert for crews working in the area, and pay attention to all signs and traffic control devices.

Project Update: Postal Way Extension

Drivers should be alert that on May 31, 2022 the intersection of Postal Way and Oakheart Road will no longer be a four-way stop. Postal Way will have the right of way and Oakheart Road will become a complete stop at the intersection. Please drive cautiously in this area and pay attention to road signs. 

Weather permitting, intermittent evening and overnight lane closures are possible at the intersection of Postal Way and Carolina Forest Boulevard near the United States Post Office.

These closures will continue through the remainder of the Postal Way Extension road construction project. The project is a part of the RIDE III Program US Highway 501 Corridor Improvements. The project includes the extension of Postal Way east to Waccamaw Pines Drive with the installation of required intersection improvements and sidewalks.

Partial Road Closure on Industrial Park Road

A portion of Industrial Park Road in Conway, between Harris Shortcut Road and the curved section of Industrial Park Road in front of the Horry County Animal Care Center, will be closed to all traffic except construction traffic.

Horry County Announces First Closings in the Socastee Buyout Program

Horry County officials announced today that the first homes in the Socastee Buyout Program have completed the closing process.

As of today, three homes have completed the closing process and another ten properties are scheduled to close in the coming weeks. Additional properties are still a part of the program and moving forward toward closing, and another round of buyouts for properties in the area will be held later this year.

After the properties have closed, the County will demolish the structures and the land will be returned to open green space. Any consideration of the spaces for future parks, etc. will be finalized after this program and any subsequent programs and phases have been completed.

Director of Community Development Beth Tranter said, “This is a tremendous moment for the program, and while we know there is still much more work to be done, we are pleased to see progress. I am grateful to the members of the Socastee community for their continued patience and perseverance through this process.”

Please note, out of respect for the privacy of these residents, Horry County will not provide any personally identifying information about participants in the buyout program.

The Socastee Buyout Program is funded primarily through Community Development Block Grant Mitigation funding and administered in partnership with the South Carolina Office of Resilience.



Conway Library Closed for Maintenance on Wednesday, May 25, 2022

The Conway Library branch of Horry County Memorial Libraries will be closed Wednesday, May 25, 2022 for building maintenance. The library will reopen Thursday, May 26, 2022, with regular operating hours. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please visit one of our other locations during this closure.
