Horry County Sheriff's Office Scam Alert

Conway, South Carolina-The Horry County Sheriff's Office has been advised by the Horry County Police about a report that their officers have taken recently about a potential scam that someone is using to get money from residents.  An unknown suspect or suspects is calling residents and telling them that they are a Deputy with the Sheriff's Office and that they have a summons that needs to be paid and are asking the victim to give them a credit card number.  What is interesting to note is that the phone number that is coming up when the suspect(s) are calling is the main line from the Sheriff's Office.  We are aware that there are apps that change phone numbers and make a call look like it is coming from another number.  The call is not coming from the Horry County Sheriff's Office.

The Horry County Sheriff's Office will NEVER ask anyone for money over the telephone.  Payments for summons, traffic tickets, etc. are paid at the local magistrate's office and not the Sheriff's Office.  We are unaware if anyone has actually given any money to the suspect(s).  If this type of incident has happened to you, please call the Horry County Police at 843-915-5350 or your local law enforcment.
