Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Planning & Zoning Department has created an online survey on agriculture in Horry County, which will be available to the public for the entire month of October. The survey is designed to capture information pertaining to the understanding of needs in our community to assist the county in maintaining our agricultural heritage. The survey is designed to collect information about consumers, producers, wholesalers, local restaurants and vendors. Questions on the survey are related to everything from farmers markets to agri-tourism and agriculture regulations.
Various community meetings will also be held regarding this topic towards the end of October to encourage open discussions on agriculture, and paper copies of the survey will also be available if needed. After the results are analyzed, they will be shared at the end of the year with municipalities, community partners and others that may find the data helpful in enhancing and enriching programs in Horry County. This information will also be useful for any future updates to the Horry County Comprehensive Plan.

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Planning & Zoning Department will attend the Greater Burgess Community Association Meeting on Thursday, September 24, at 7 p.m. at the South Strand Recreation Center, located at 9650 Scipio Lane in Myrtle Beach. Horry County Planning & Zoning staff will present the draft Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan for the Burgess Community. The draft will be available for community input and comments during this time and maps/project descriptions will also be available. The deadline for public comments is Friday, October 9, 2015.
The process for developing this draft began in March where county staff gathered public input as well as input from community surveys regarding cycling and pedestrian needs throughout this community.
Once the public input comment period has closed, this draft plan will be submitted to the Horry County Planning Commission for review and additional public comment. Once completed by the commission, it will then be forwarded to Horry County Council as an amendment to the Horry County Comprehensive Plan.

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County Council, in conjunction with Keep Horry County Beautiful and numerous partners, will host a countywide, volunteer litter cleanup event Saturday, November 7, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The event will feature 11-locations around the county where volunteers can choose to participate. Sign-in at each location will begin at 8:30 a.m. with roadside pickup to begin at 9 am to noon.
Volunteers are invited to a post celebration party on the back lawn of the Historic Horry County Courthouse in Conway (1201 3rd Avenue) from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. The litter collected at the various locations around the county will be transported to and displayed at the courthouse. There will be food, prizes, entertainment, and much more!
Pre-registration is highly encouraged and available on the Horry County website. Volunteers may follow the link to pre-register online or may download the preregistration form and mail it to Nancy Tindall, Horry County Planning & Zoning, 1301 2nd Ave, Conway, SC 29526. The public is invited to participate as well as church groups, civic organizations, community associations, local businesses, etc. Come out and show your support for a cleaner Horry County!
Volunteers should also download a waiver form to bring to the registration table on the day of the event. One form will be required per individual. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CLEANUP EVENT WITHOUT A SIGNED WAIVER FORM! Please note that participants who are at least 16 years of age, but under 18 years of age, must have a parent or other legal custodian sign the waiver form. NO PARTICIPANTS UNDER THE AGE OF 16 YEARS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE WITHOUT PRESENCE OF A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN.
Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes to participate and are encouraged to wear long sleeves, long pants, leather shoes or boots, and eye protection. Trash bags, gloves, a wristband, and a brightly colored t-shirt will be provided the day of the event.
