Conway, South Carolina—Horry County Auditor Dr. Lois Eargle announced today a new online filing system for business personal property tax returns filed with the County Auditor’s Office. Property owners who are subject to the business personal property tax will be receiving a postcard in the mail with instructions on how to file online, providing a fast, convenient way to file rather than by a paper form.
In the past, property owners required to file business personal property tax returns with the County used a PR-26 form. While PR-26 forms will still be mailed out in March to property owners subject to business personal property tax, they can now file online instead of using paper forms.
The new online system will be more efficient both for taxpayers and for the staff in the Auditor’s Office in processing approximately 84,000 returns.
Property subject to business personal property tax includes the furniture, fixtures, and equipment that are owned and used in a business. This includes the furniture, fixtures, and equipment associated with residential properties that are not primary or secondary homes, such as rental units. This update to the system deals specifically with business personal property taxes that are filed with the County Auditor’s Office.
Property owners who have questions about filing business personal property taxes and the online filing system can call the Horry County Auditor’s office at (843) 915-5054.
