Conway, South Carolina – Horry County announced the three winners of the Horry County Employee Quarterly Awards, and a winner from each of the three divisions was chosen.
Frank Russell, a Procurement Clerk for the Horry County Procurement Department, won the Administration Division Quarterly Award for his willing acceptance of additional duties of the Managed Print Services (MPS) initiative. He quickly and efficiently inventoried Horry County’s printers and documented over 850 devices. The inventory required a significant level of coordination and teamwork with every County department. In addition, Frank has administrative duties and manages the County’s surplus property sales. Frank is committed to excellence in customer service and is a critical part of the Procurement Department.
Lori Woods, Communications Center Supervisor at Horry County 9-1-1, won the Public Safety Division Quarterly Award for her work with exploring the benefits of enabling Automatic Call Distribution on the 9-1-1 phone system. Her thorough research and work with vendors allowed her to isolate, identify, and proactively correct issues. This positively affected the quality of service that Horry County 9-1-1 is able to provide to our citizens. Lori’s diligence eliminated a myriad of possible frustrations for call-takers, dispatchers, and management. As the most junior Communication Center supervisor, Lori has continued to grow as the leader of her squad and is a valued staff member.
Stevie Brown, Chief Plans Reviewer for Horry County Planning & Zoning, won the Infrastructure & Regulation Division Quarterly Award for taking on the responsibility of performing on-site inspections of landscaping for commercial projects prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) which was previously performed by Code Enforcement. Horry County Planning and Zoning assumed the responsibility due to the expertise required in reading the approved landscaping plans and in identifying the types, sizes and placement of the required plants, shrubs and trees. Mr. Brown has to coordinate his daily schedule with the commercial inspectors from Code Enforcement. The transition has been flawless and Stevie is able to work harmoniously with Code Enforcement staff. He provides superior customer service and is professional and positive. Stevie maintains his cool, even under pressure, and presents a positive image both in the office and the field.
Dorothy “Nan” Hucks, Administrative Assistant for Myrtle Beach Aviation, won the Department of Airports Quarterly Award for the assistance she provided to the Airport Finance Department with QuickBooks processing of daily transactions for the North Myrtle Beach Airport. Nan was asked to learn the program and assist with fixed based operations specific criteria to mirror the Myrtle Beach Aviation transactions. Nan’s prior knowledge and experience have been instrumental in her success.
These four winners of the Horry County Employee Quarterly Awards received $250, a designated parking space, a certificate of achievement, and are eligible for the Employee of the Year Award of $1,000.

The Employee Quarterly Award Program focuses on an act or performance accomplished by an employee that is significant or of great value to the department or county organization as a whole and is beyond normal expectations of the employee. Considerations are also given to customer service, cost/time savings, recognized increased efficiency, and/or effectiveness, or revenue generated funds.
