Conway, South Carolina – Horry County has announced the winner and two runner-ups for the Randy Faulk Employee of the Year Award, which is in memory of Mr. Randy Faulk who received the very first Employee of the Year award in 2006 and who sadly was taken from our world less than three years later after a brave battle with cancer. Mr. Faulk worked in the Horry County Maintenance Department and was truly a role model for all county employees, demonstrating that every employee can make a difference.
Horry County awarded Candy Debusk, with the Randy Faulk Employee of the Year Award. Ms. Debusk is the 15th Circuit Drug Court Director at the Horry County Solicitor’s Office and won the Public Safety Division Quarterly Award for her work with the 15th Judicial Circuit Drug Court. Since assuming leadership, the program has grown from fewer than ten participants in a single program to two programs in Horry County and one in Georgetown with a total of 90 to 100 participants. Ms. DeBusk often works nights and weekends to ensure the success of the participants and the programs. She implemented vocational rehabilitation and her forward thinking has seen an average unemployment rate amongst participants of less than 5%. She also applied for a Federal grant that allowed the Drug Court to create a program in Georgetown and doubled the capacity of the Horry County programs. As a result of her unending dedication, the programs have graduated over 150 participants that has saved the State of South Carolina nearly $5 million dollars in inmate costs not to mention decreased law enforcement and social service needs. She has saved millions of dollars and improved many lives. As the Employee of the Year, Debusk received a plaque and a check for $1,000.
Two runner-ups were also honored for their contributions and were previously Employee of the Quarter winners. They were Jackie Angus, Library Support Specialist in the Horry County Memorial Library, and Stevie Brown, Chief Plan Reviewer in the Horry County Planning & Zoning Department. They each received a check for $500.
The Employee Award Program focuses on an act or performance accomplished by an employee that is significant or of great value to the department or county organization as a whole and is beyond normal expectations of the employee. Considerations are also given to customer service, cost/time savings, recognized increased efficiency, and/or effectiveness, or revenue generated funds.
