Horry County Continues Damage Assessment

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County continues the damage assessment process for both residential/commercial structures in the unincorporated areas. Horry County Public Works and Stormwater Department are also doing damage assessment on both the paved and unpaved road network. The Horry County Engineering Department will be on the beaches tomorrow surveying beach erosion along our coast. It could take several days to compile a countywide assessment for the number of structures affected and the estimated cost damage throughout out area.


The Emergency Operations Center continues to monitor those subdivisions that are still impacted by the flood waters and have first responders on stand-by for those residents that need assistance evacuating their homes. Residents are encouraged to call 911 for evacuation assistance.


The county continues to monitor the river levels along the Waccamaw River and those communities that are impacted and will become impacted with the rising levels. Numerous homeowners have self-evacuated and others are choosing to stay in their homes. Horry County Fire/Rescue, Horry County Police and the Department of Natural Resources continue to monitor those communities and will provides assistance as needed including assistance with evacuations. Officials are deterring people from site seeing in those locations by car and by boat. Boat wakes can cause additional damage to property and people are highly encouraged to stay away unless you are a property owner.
