Hurricane Matthew Update: October 8, 2016 @ 12:30 p.m.

Time: 12:30 p.m.

  • As of 12 p.m. this afternoon there are 942 in shelters.
  • Over 3,400 callers have been assisted through the Horry County Emergency Operations Center phone bank
  • 55+ roads closed and/or impassable.
  • There are a few reports of downed trees.
  • All flights at MYR are cancelled today.  Most flights will resume after 10 a.m. tomorrow.  Travelers should check with their airlines for current status.
  • US 501 is closed at HWY 22 (correction from last release) and at Millpond Road
  • Reports of substantial damage to the Surfside Beach pier
  • Sporadic power outages continue throughout the county
  • Surfside Beach has shut down all roads from Dogwood Drive to the ocean.
  • Large oak tree down at 16th Avenue and Sessions Street in Conway.  Several powerlines were knocked down, no structural damage reported.

Citizens are reminded to stay off the roads, to NEVER drive around barricades/barrels/road closed signs, and to NEVER drive through standing water.
