Hurricane Matthew Update: October 8, 2016 @ 4 p.m.

Time: 4 p.m.

  • As of 3 p.m. this afternoon there are 938 in shelters.
  • Over 3,500 callers have been assisted through the Horry County Emergency Operations Center phone bank
  • 96+ roads closed and/or impassable.
  • Pier damage has been reported at Surfside Pier, Springmaid Pier, Apache Pier and 2nd Avenue Pier (Myrtle Beach).
  • All flights at MYR are cancelled today.  Flights may resume after 10 a.m. tomorrow.  Travelers should check with their airlines for current status.
  • US 501 is closed at HWY 22 (correction from last release) and at Millpond Road
  • Over 50,000 power outages have been reported.
  • Surfside Beach has shut down all roads from Dogwood Drive to the ocean.
  • Large oak tree down at 16th Avenue and Sessions Street in Conway.  Several powerlines were knocked down, no structural damage reported.
  • The Town of Aynor will implement a curfew this evening from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Call 843-358-3900 for emergencies in the Town of Aynor.

Citizens are reminded to stay off the roads, to NEVER drive around barricades/barrels/road closed signs, and to NEVER drive through standing water.
