Matthew Update: LIFTED FOR HORRY COUNTY
Conway, South Carolina – South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has just lifted the evacuation order for Horry and Georgetown counties. Residents and businesses will have unrestricted access in Zone A but some areas may be cordoned off due to rescue efforts.
The Horry County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will remain to OPCON 1, to support the current riverine flooding.
All shelters, except shelter at Beach Church (for citizens who are experiencing flooding) will close as of 8 a.m. this morning. Evacuees who had utilized the Coast RTA to get to the shelters will be taken back to their point of origin.
As of 5 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016, initial damage assessments in the unincorporated areas of Horry County include 251 structures, mainly residential properties. These structures sustained minor damage, which is estimated at $7.9 million. Damage assessments will continue throughout this week.
