Horry County Moves to OPCON 4

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County will move to Operating Condition (OPCON) 4 as of noon this afternoon.  OPCON 4 means that flooding still poses a threat to Horry County, however the area rivers/waterways continues to recede and the situation is becoming more stabilized. Horry County Emergency Management is transitioning into recovery efforts to assist those in our community who currently have immediate and future needs.

The Horry County Emergency Operations Center and the phone bank (843-915-5150) will operate on a 12-hour shift and will open daily from 7 a.m. -7 p.m. daily, beginning today, with select Emergency Support Functions (ESFs).  The Horry County Police will continue to staff security checkpoints and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the Horry County Police will continue to provide boat patrols along the flooded rivers/waterways.

There are two shelters open for evacuees: Church of Christ Grand Strand on Glenn’s Bay Road and James R. Frazier Community Center in Bucksport.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved Horry County for Individual Assistance, allowing survivors who sustained losses to apply for aid in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. Assistance can include money for temporary rental assistance and essential home repairs for primary homes, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help survivors recover from the effects of the disaster. Survivors can register online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362. Disaster assistance applicants who are deaf or hard of hearing should call 800-462-7585 (TTY); those who use Video Relay Service may call 800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers will operate 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.
