Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Board of Architectural Review’s Legacy Business Recognition Program will recognize Lazelle’s Flower Shop October 25, 2017, at 2 p.m. with ribbon cutting ceremonies. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
The family-owned and operated flower shop was opened in 1946 by Lazelle and Oswell, “O.C.” DuBois. Over the years, their three children and eight grandchildren all worked in the store. The business was passed on to their daughter, Lyticia D. Wesner in 1983. The current owner, Chrisie W. Jollie began working for her grandparents at the age of ten. She went on to work for her mom and took ownership of the store in 1990 with the passing of her mother. Recently, Lazelle’s Flower Shop has won an award from the Teleflora Wire Service for being in the top 1,000 stores in the USA last year.
The Horry County Legacy Business Recognition Program pays tribute to local businesses that have contributed to the economic heritage of Horry County for more than 50-continuous years.

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Solid Waste Authority will hold a Grand Reopening Ceremony at the McDowell Recycling Center located at 10622 McDowell Shortcut Road in Murrells Inlet on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 10 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The significantly larger $1.2 million center is located directly behind the former center and offers enhanced features such as clean wood recycling, carpet padding recycling, bulk waste compactors and a drop off location for “The Store” in addition to typical recycling convenience center services:

Conway, South Carolina – Once again this year, Horry County Government will participate in the Coast RTA’s 12th Annual Coats for Kids drive. Horry County will be accepting donations of new and gently used coats, hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters, sweatshirts and blankets (for folks of all ages). A decorated box for donations will be placed in the Atrium of the Horry County Government & Justice Center located at 1301 Second Avenue in Conway. Donations will be accepted now until November 29, 2017. Items collected will be distributed to area needy families by the Coast RTA Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Conway, South Carolina-Horry County will conduct mosquito spraying, weather permitting, in the following areas:
Aerial spraying will be conducted in the evenings usually between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and dusk, weather permitting (Wednesday, September 27 is the alternate date in the event of inclement weather).
The chemicals used for mosquito control spraying are approved by the EPA and pose minimal risk to humans or animals. Individuals with asthma or other respiratory illness may wish to stay indoors and close windows and doors during spraying. In addition, homegrown fruits and vegetables should be washed, scrubbed, and/or peeled before eating.
To help keep our honeybee population safe, beekeepers are urged to contact Horry County Stormwater to identify the location of their colonies. In addition, citizens who need to request spraying in their area can contact the Horry County Road & Drainage Hotline at 843-381-8000.

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Animal Care Center (HCACC) will hold a vaccination clinic, 10 October 2017, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the shelter located at 1923 Industrial Park Road in Conway. The following services will be offered:
Dogs and cats are both welcome; dogs must be on a hand-held leash and cats must be in a pet carrier.
The Animal Care Center also holds low cost spay/neuter clinics, which are open to all residents of Horry County. The cost for cats is $50 and dogs are $80 (discounted fees are available for residents receiving government assistance). Contact the HCACC for more information or to make an appointment.
To help homeless animals find loving homes, the HCACC offers discounted adoptions the first Friday and Saturday of each month. The discounted fee typically includes spaying/neutering, vaccines, heartworm or leukemia testing, heartworm and flea preventative, intestinal parasite treatment and microchipping. Qualifying new pet parents also get 30-days free pet health insurance and coupons from local pet businesses.
