Horry County To Conduct Aerial Mosquito Spraying July 2, 2020

Horry County Government will conduct aerial spraying for mosquitoes Thursday, July 2, 2020, (inclement weather alternate date is Monday, July 6, 2020), between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and dusk, weather permitting in the following locations:

  • Lucas Bay/Little Lamb/ Bucksport Rd/Hilly Ln
  • Pitch Landing/Winburn St/ Landing Rd
  • Longs, N 905 area/Fries Bay Rd, Pleasant Grove, Waccamaw Ln, and the Four Corners area

The Horry County Stormwater Department operates the mosquito control program and offers regular service to residents in the unincorporated area of Horry County. Anyone in the unincorporated areas can request mosquito spraying by calling the Road and Drainage Hotline at (843) 381-8000 or by using the free HCConnect App on their smartphone. To help keep our honeybee population safe, beekeepers are urged to contact Horry County Stormwater to identify the location of their colonies or fill out a no-spray zone form on our website.

The chemicals used for mosquito control spraying are approved by the EPA and pose minimal risk to humans or animals. Individuals with asthma or other respiratory illness may wish to stay indoors and close windows and doors during spraying. In addition, homegrown fruits and vegetables should be washed, scrubbed, and/or peeled before eating.

Horry County Fire Rescue to Host Community Safety Day

Conway, South Carolina—Horry County Fire Rescue will be holding a Community Safety Day Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the James R. Frazier Community Center in Bucksport.

This community public education event will feature representatives from Horry County Fire Rescue, Horry County Sheriff’s Office, Horry County Police Department, Horry County Emergency Management, Horry County Public Information as well as Grand Strand Health and Molina Healthcare of South Carolina.

There will be demonstrations and information on EMS, Investigations, Volunteer and Career Recruitment, Stop the Bleed, Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Preparedness Kits.

“Public safety agencies exist not only to respond to emergencies after the fact but to prevent or reduce the effects of their occurrence in the first place,” said Horry County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Chris Nash. “The Community Safety Day is a great way for Horry County Fire Rescue EMS to partner with other community organizations, and proactively go out into the community to discuss Community Risk Reduction.”

This family-friendly event will have giveaways as well as offer a chance for members of the community to see Horry County Fire Rescue, Horry County Sheriff’s Office and Horry County Police Department vehicles and officers up close. Media is welcome to attend.



Splash Pad at James R. Frazier Community Center Ribbon Cutting

Conway, South Carolina—Horry County Government will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Splash Pad at the James R. Frazier Community Center on Wednesday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m.

Join Horry County Councilman Harold Phillips and Horry County Council Chairman Mark Lazarus along with members of the Parks and Open Space Board, Keep Horry County Beautiful, and Parks and Recreation to recognize the opening of the new Splash Pad at the James R. Frazier Community Center.

The Splash Pad is part of a larger beautification project at the James R. Frazier Community Center which will include the Splash Pad and a Born Learning Trail. The splash pad is a 707 square foot wet play area for children adding another amenity for families at a beloved community center.

The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place at the James R. Frazier Community Center located at 1370 Bucksport Road in Bucksport, South Carolina.

Hurricane Matthew Update:

A CodeRed message was sent from the Horry County Emergency Operations Center this morning alerting the residents of Bucksport about the flooding.  Please see below for the message:

"Properties near and around Bucksport Road, from the river to the James R. Frazier Recreation Center, are reporting flooding due to the Pee Dee River.

Horry County Fire Rescue crews and the Horry County Police are in your community assisting those that need to evacuate their property.  We encourage people to leave now and report to the James R. Frazier Recreation Center.  Please call Horry County Emergency Management at 843-915-5150 for assistance."
