Ghost of the Coast Fun Run & Trunk or Treat

The Horry County Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a Fun Run and Trunk or Treat at the Carolina Forest Recreation center on October 26th, 2019. This event will be the grand opening of a newly created 5K run and walk trail behind the Carolina Forest Recreation Center.

Costumes are encouraged for the Fun Run and awards will be given for best female adult costume, best male adult costume, best female child costume, best male child costume, best couple costume and best family costume. Fun Runners will be rewarded with a themed medal at the finish line and all paid registrants will receive a Halloween themed race t-shirt.

Immediately after the Fun Run, Horry County Parks and Recreation will host a free Trunk or Treat for all children of Horry County. The Trunk or Treat will feature games, face painting, and inflatables while numerous businesses and Horry County departments will be handing out candy to the children. Please join us for this great event!

Everyone is welcome to participate in both events, or just bring your family out for some trick or treating fun at trunk or treat!

Carolina Forest Library to Hold Volunteer Fair

Conway, South Carolina – The Carolina Forest branch of the Horry County Memorial Library System will hold the 1st Annual Volunteer Fair Wednesday, September 12, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Community organizations needing volunteers will be on hand such as:

  • Freedom Readers
  • Horry County Literacy Council
  • Tidelands Hospice
  • Heartland Hospice
  • Myrtle Beach Vet Center
  • Caris Healthcare
  • SOS Healthcare
  • North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol
  • Sea Haven
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Horry County Museum
  • Horry County Board of Architectural Review
  • Keep Horry County Beautiful
  • And many more!

 

In addition, the Horry County Animal Care Center will be at the Library to host a very special Adoption Day. They will have adoptable dogs with reduced adoption fees of just $40!

Horry County Memorial Libraries to Celebrate International Literacy Day

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Memorial Library System and the Horry County Literacy Council have teamed up to host the 2018 International Literacy Day Celebration. International Literacy Day was declared by UNESCO in 1966 and is celebrated annually on September 8th to bring attention to global literacy needs. This year’s theme is “Literacy and Skills Development” which highlights child and adult literacy.

As part of the celebration, everyone is invited to the Carolina Forest Library September 8, 2018, for free family events throughout the day including tandem reading, bilingual story time, personal reflections on literacy, refreshments, and information about services and resources offered by the Horry County Memorial Library System and the Horry County Literacy Council. Carolina Forest Library to Offer Extended Hours

Conway, South Carolina – To better serve the needs of the Carolina Forest community, the Carolina Forest branch of the Horry County Memorial Library System will offer extended hours beginning Tuesday, September 5, 2017:

  • Mondays through Thursdays: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
  • Fridays: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 
  • Saturdays: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Keep Horry County Beautiful Litter Cleanups

Conway, South Carolina – The Keep Horry County Beautiful Committee announces a volunteer opportunity for people or organizations interested in assisting with upcoming litter cleanups in our community. Trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and trash grabbers will be provided.

Saturday, February 6 – Dunn Shortcut Road – 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.  Join the residents of Wood Creek, along with members of The Refuge and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as they pick up litter on Dunn Shortcut Road in Conway.  Meet in the parking lot at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 450 Dunn Shortcut Road in Conway.  Contact Courtney Burge for more information.

Friday, February 12 – Carolina Forest Boulevard & River Oaks Drive– 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. - Join Beautify Carolina Forest Group in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful for the cleanup of Carolina Forest Blvd and River Oaks Drive.  Meet in the parking lot at Carolina Forest Recreation Center located at 2254 Carolina Forest Blvd in Myrtle Beach. The next meeting of the Keep Horry County Beautiful Committee will be held January 26, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the Government and Justice Center located at 1301 Second Avenue in Conway.
