Horry County Government Offices & Facilities to Close Early Due to Severe Weather Threat

Based on the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service, Horry County Government offices and facilities will close at 2 p.m. today, March 18, 2021, due to the potential threat of severe weather.

All Horry County Solid Waste Authority recycling and convenience centers will also close at 2 p.m. today.

Recreation events scheduled at county recreation centers and fields will also be cancelled tonight.

The Board of Fee Appeals meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. today is cancelled.

Myrtle Beach International Airport remains open but passengers should check the status of their flights with their airlines.

Public safety departments will continue to provide critical services.

Auditor’s Myrtle Beach Office Temporarily Closing

Due to increased cases of COVID-19 and potential exposures, the Horry County Auditor's office in Myrtle Beach located at 1201 21st Avenue North, will be closed effective immediately through February 18, 2021. The office is anticipated to reopen on Friday, February 19, 2021.

The offices located in Conway, Little River and South Strand will remain open and operating on normal schedule. Some services, including the application for the homestead exemption, are available online.

Horry County Community Development Office Closes to the Public October 7- October 9, 2020

The Horry County Community Development Office will be closed to the public Wednesday, October 7, 2020 through Friday, October 9, 2020 while they move their office space. They are temporarily relocating to a facility located at 128 Professional Park Drive in Conway before moving to their new permanent office space in the former Santee Cooper building located on the corner of Second and Elm Street in downtown Conway after the New Year.

The facility located at 1515 Fourth Avenue in Conway, where the Community Development offices were previously located, will now house only the Voters Registration and Elections Offices, allowing that office to expand.

While the Community Development office is closed to the public this week, employees will still be working to facilitate the move. During the office closure, phone service may be limited. If you need to be in touch with the office during that time, please email Courtney Frappaolo at The offices are scheduled to re-open to the public in their new temporary location on Monday, October 12.

Horry County Facilities Close to the Public Beginning Tomorrow

For the protection of our employees and our community, all Horry County Government offices will be closed to the public beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020 until further notice. This excludes all airports. Limited court functions will continue. All employees will still report to work at their regularly scheduled time.

We strongly urge the public to handle business online where possible. We understand that there are crucial transactions that must take place and are not available online. The public is asked to call those departments directly for information and coordination. Specifically for anyone who needs to file for office, please call 843-915-5440 and make an appointment with Voters Registration & Elections.

County staff remains available by phone and email. Please understand that we are going to be experiencing higher than usual call volumes and there may be delays. 

In addition, we have activated the phone bank for questions regarding County specific functions. It will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The phone number is 843-915-5000. 

The County Council Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2020 will be canceled. 

We understand that these are trying and difficult times. We ask our community to be patient and to continue to practice good hygiene and social distancing. 

Horry County officials are actively monitoring conditions and will make ongoing adjustments as called for.

Horry County to Close Offices Thursday and Friday


Horry County Government's offices, and all circuit/family and magistrates courts will be closed Thursday, September 5, 2019, and Friday, September 6, 2019. At this time, Horry County Government offices will remain open on a normal operating schedule Wednesday, September 4, 2019. However, staffing may be lighter than usual and we encourage members of the public to call before they travel to the Government and Justice Center to ensure the office they are visiting is open. 

In addition, the Public Safety Committee meeting scheduled to take place next week on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 has been cancelled. 

Between 60 to 70 percent of Horry County’s workforce are deemed “essential” employees and will be working to support the Horry County Emergency Operations Center, the ongoing evacuation of Horry County Zone A and the needs of our citizens and local businesses.

  • The Myrtle Beach International Airport will remain open. People are encouraged to check with their airlines on flight status throughout the rest of the week and this weekend.
  • The Horry County Museum and Living History Farm has cancelled all programming through Saturday, September 7, including The Museum Matinee, Cooking Demonstrations at the Farm, Jr. Farmers, Farm Harvest Day, and Lee Brockington: Women of the Waccamaw.
