4th Annual Horry County Community Cleanup Day a Success

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County Council, in conjunction with Keep Horry County Beautiful and numerous partners, hosted a countywide, volunteer litter cleanup event on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The event featured 10-locations around the county where approximately over 205 volunteers came out and picked up nearly 700 bags of litter. The number of bags of litter collected by County Council district are as follows: 

  • District 1        -           92 bags
  • District 2        -           20 bags
  • District 3        -           7 bags
  • District 4 & 5 -           61 bags
  • District 6        -          35 bags
  • District 7        -          54 bags
  • District 8        -          36 bags
  • District 9 & 10 -        189 bags
  • District 11      -          36 bags
  • City of Conway -      150 bags 

Participating agencies and partners for the event include Keep Horry County Beautiful, PalmettoPride, Coastal Carolina University, Horry County Schools, Carolina Forest Civic Association, Greater Burgess Community Association, Horry County Solid Waste Authority, Coast RTA and many more.
 
Keep Horry County Beautiful also recognized the following groups and individuals for achievement in efforts to reduce litter and beautify our county. The Community Cleanup and Beautification Awards for 2017 were:

4th Annual Horry County Community Cleanup Day

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County Council, in conjunction with Keep Horry County Beautiful and numerous partners, will host a countywide, volunteer litter cleanup event Saturday, October 21, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The event will feature 10-locations around the county where volunteers can choose to participate. Sign-in at each location will begin at 8:30 a.m. with roadside pickup to begin at 9 am to noon.   

Volunteers are invited to a post celebration party at the Horry County Solid Waste Authority in Conway (1886 Highway 90) from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.  The litter collected at the various locations around the county will be transported to the landfill.  There will be food, prizes, entertainment, tours of the landfill, and much more!

Pre-registration is highly encouraged and available on the Horry County website.  Volunteers may follow the link to pre-register online or may download the preregistration form and mail it to Nancy Tindall, Horry County Planning & Zoning, 1301 2nd Ave, Conway, SC 29526.  The public is invited to participate as well as church groups, civic organizations, community associations, local businesses, etc. Come out and show your support for a cleaner Horry County!

Volunteers should also download a waiver form to bring to the registration table on the day of the event. One form will be required per individual. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CLEANUP EVENT WITHOUT A SIGNED WAIVER FORM!   Please note that participants who are at least 16 years of age, but under 18 years of age, must have a parent or other legal custodian sign the waiver form.  NO PARTICIPANTS UNDER THE AGE OF 16 YEARS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE WITHOUT PRESENCE OF A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN.

Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes to participate and are encouraged to wear long sleeves, long pants, leather shoes or boots, and eye protection.  Trash bags, gloves, a wristband, and a brightly colored t-shirt will be provided the day of the event.

Keep Horry County Beautiful Litter Events

Conway, South Carolina – The Keep Horry County Beautiful Committee announces a volunteer opportunity for anyone interested in assisting with upcoming litter cleanups in our community. Trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and trash grabbers will be provided.

  • Saturday, February 18 – Socastee Recreation Center– 10 a.m. Boy Scout Troop 853 in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful will hold a cleanup of the Socastee Recreation Center. Please meet at 10 a.m. at the Socastee Recreation Center located at 7485 Butler Road. 
  • Saturday, February 25, 2016 – Racepath Community Cleanup – 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Keep Horry County Beautiful will assist area residents to cleanup roadside litter. Volunteers should meet at the Racepath Community Center located at 1690 Racepath Street in Myrtle Beach. Contact Rev. Gause for more information: 843-283-3864.
  • Saturday, February 25 – Bucksport Road – 9 a.m. The Distinguished Men of Bucksport in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful will hold a cleanup of Bucksport Road in Bucksport. Please meet at 9 a.m. at the James R Frazier Community Center located at 1370 Bucksport Road.  Contact Alphonzo Sherman for more information: 843-340-5586. (PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATE HAS CHANGED)

Second Annual Horry County Community Cleanup Day Was a Huge Success

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County Council, in conjunction with Keep Horry County Beautiful and numerous partners, hosted a countywide, volunteer litter cleanup event on Saturday, November 7, 2015. The event featured 12-locations around the county where approximately 400 volunteers came out and picked up 811 bags of litter. The numbers of bags of litter collected by County Council district are as follows:

  • District 1         -           33 bags
  • District 2         -           70 bags
  • District 3         -           35 bags
  • District 4         -           18 bags
  • District 5         -           104 bags
  • District 6         -           108 bags
  • District 7         -           51 bags

Horry County Community Cleanup Day Location Change

Conway, South Carolina –Please note that the location for Aynor has changed from the Aynor Town Park to the Aynor Town Hall (the address is the same).  A list of the locations are as follows:

Registered volunteers are reminded to bring their signed waiver forms to the registration table on the day of the event.
