RIDE III Project Update: U.S. Highway 701 Widening North of Loris
This week, the South Carolina Department of Transportation SCDOT provided an update on the status of this RIDE III Program project. Property owners along the U.S. Hwy. 701 corridor above Loris may receive a postcard (pictured below) in their mailboxes this week. At this point, the design and permitting phases are complete. All individuals with property impacts have been contacted by a Right of Way Agent. The project is on schedule and construction is expected to begin this summer.
The scope of this project includes widening U.S. Hwy. 701 North of Loris, from the end of the existing 3-lane section (Dogwood Street) to the SC Hwy. 9 interchange. The improved road will feature 5-lanes, including a center turn-lane and installation of bike/pedestrian facilities such as sidewalks and wider travel lanes. These improvements are expected to improve capacity while decreasing traffic congestion along the corridor.
For more information about the project, visit the project website at https://arcg.is/14W05X.
