International Drive Road Race Rescheduled

The International Drive Road Race, postponed earlier this year due to COVID-19, has been rescheduled to Sunday, November 15, 2020. The event includes a 5K, 10K, and one-mile fun run for kids. The event will have additional COVID-19 safety protocols including staggered start times throughout the morning and a virtual awards ceremony (additional protocols are outlined below).

This is a closed course race. Participants are able to compete in both the 5K and 10K with the top 1st-3rd overall male and female runners receiving awards. Each participant will receive a finisher medal.

Registration for the rescheduled date is now open and registration fees include a high-quality tech t-shirt, a finishers medal, and refreshments at the finish line packaged for you to take with you. Fun run participants have the option of purchasing a t-shirt.

COVID-19 Safety Protocols

  1. To ensure social distancing, participants are asked not to go to the starting line until ten minutes before race time.
  2. We will have approximately 50 cones placed behind the starting line that are approximately 6 feet apart. We ask that every runner stands at a cone only with family members or people that they rode to the event with. There should be no more than 5 people at any given cone even if they are family or you rode with them. The race is chip timed and we will be doing a rolling start. Runners will be let go one cone at a time by the race staff at the start line. Runners in the line will continue moving to the next cone until they reach the final cone/start line where they will be released to start the race.
  3. People will not be permitted to gather in crowds at the finish line.
  4. There will be no awards ceremony. Awards will be delivered or mailed to recipients.
  5. Results will be posted online and on facebook.
  6. Unless supervising a minor child participating in the race, people who are not participating in the race will not be allowed in the area as spectators.

Recreation Centers Reopen Monday, June 22, 2020

Horry County Department of Parks & Recreation facilities will reopen to the public on Monday, June 22nd. This includes Recreation Centers, Community Centers, and the Cochran building. All HCPR facilities will resume their normal operating hours. Those with memberships will be refunded a pro-rated amount based on the amount of time our facilities were closed and their memberships will remain valid until the original expiration.

The Recreation Centers will be offering pickleball and basketball during designated hours only, while the walking tracks will be open the entire day. Gym schedules can be found below. Fitness classes will be offered with limited capacity, so those interested are encouraged to register online to ensure their spot. Register here:

In an effort to make our facilities as safe as possible and to stop the spread of COVID-19, our staff will be wearing masks, gymnasium capacity is limited, cleanings are being conducted more frequently, drinking fountains have been disabled, hand washing stations have been added, and social distancing markings have been placed throughout the Centers.

We appreciate your understanding during this time and ask that everyone visiting our facilities please be respectful of social distancing guidelines. We strongly encourage visitors to wear masks while in common areas and will have them available at the buildings. Please bring your own water bottles and any personal equipment needed for fitness classes.

Summer Camp Canceled

2020 Summer Camps Canceled

A number of our summer camp staff members were exposed to an individual confirmed positive for COVID-19. For the safety of everyone involved, we are canceling all of the Parks and Recreation summer camps scheduled to begin tomorrow. We apologize for the short notice. We were notified of the exposure late Saturday and assessed the impacts to our programs, making the decision to cancel all of our summer camp programs for the remainder of the summer.

We know this is disappointing news for our campers and families. We are anxious to get back to normal but we will not compromise our standards of safety for our campers. We appreciate your continued patience during this difficult time.

Anyone already registered for summer camp programs will be contacted and issued a full refund. Please stay tuned to our Parks and Recreation Facebook page and for updates.
