Conway, South Carolina – Effective immediately Horry County Government will enact a burning ban for all unincorporated areas of the county until further notice.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued the following information:
Red Flag Conditions Likely on Saturday. Relative Humidity around 25% (30% Horry County coast) and winds of 20+ mph sustained with gusts to 30 mph will combine with very dry fuels to create dangerous fire weather conditions Saturday late morning through evening. A Red Flag Warning MAY be issued this afternoon for Saturday.
The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted all of eastern SC in an ELEVATED risk for dangerous fire weather on Saturday.
Horry County has a policy allowing it to institute an outdoor burning ban whenever there's a statewide red flag alert or if weather conditions appear conducive to wildfires.
Outdoor burning will be banned until further notice.
