Public Safety Committee Workshop

Conway, South Carolina-Ahead of the Horry County Council Public Safety Committee meeting on June 13, 2018, the committee will hold a workshop on the recently proposed ordinance that would provide for the regulation of outdoor burning within unincorporated Horry County. The workshop will be held at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers at the Government and Justice Center and members of the public are encouraged to attend and participate. The workshop will include public input, and members of the public who would like to participate in the public input at this workshop are not required to register in advance. The Public Safety Committee Meeting will immediately follow in Council Chambers.



Community Development Block Grant Workshops & Deadline Announced

Conway, South Carolina – The Horry County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Office has announced the deadline for filing CDBG sub-recipient agency applications for the 2015 cycle will be Friday, February 5, 2016, by 2 pm. The application and instructions can be found on the Horry County website.

The funding is provided through a federal block grant program to assist in developing a viable urban community by expanding opportunities for decent housing, suitable living environments and needed public services. Projects must provide a benefit to low-to-moderate income citizens and/or address areas of slum or blight. The County CDBG office does not make grants directly to individuals or families, but instead funds non-profit and governmental agencies that carry out projects in the local area. Submission of an application does not guarantee funding.

To assist with the applications, the Horry County CDBG office will hold three classes at the CDBG/Voters Registration and Election Complex located at 1515 Fourth Avenue, Conway. They are scheduled as follows:

  • Wednesday, December 16, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Tuesday, January 12, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, January 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Horry County Emergency Management Holds Business Disaster Preparation Workshop

Conway, South Carolina – Horry County Emergency Management has partnered with the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) to hold a business disaster preparation workshop titled, Keeping Our Businesses Strong: Strategies for Business Continuity in the Face of Disaster on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Horry County Government & Justice Center located at 1301 Second Avenue in Conway.  The free workshop will educate and encourage area businesses to better prepare for disasters by developing a business continuity plan and utilizing tools to assist them in determining their needs after a disaster.  

The workshop is free, however space is limited.  Interested participants click HERE to register.  If you would like to meet with a business continuity specialist at the event, please indicate your interest on the registration form.
