Resiliency Project

The goal of the Horry County Flood Resilience Plan is to identify long-term strategies that will reduce flood risks and vulnerabilities along the Waccamaw and Pee Dee Rivers and the Intracoastal Waterway in unincorporated Horry County.

Horry County Flood Resiliency Plan

Funded through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) as project F #30 S #251 - Horry County Mitigation and Resilience Plan Update, this project has a federal share of $210,937.  Local match is $190,013. This project is designed to result in an annex to the county’s All-Hazard’s Mitigation Plan and is scheduled for completion in approximately 6 months.

The goal of the Horry County Flood Resilience Plan is to identify long-term strategies that will reduce flood risks and vulnerabilities along the Waccamaw and Pee Dee Rivers and the Intracoastal Waterway in unincorporated Horry County. The County acquired the services of a consulting firm to develop a plan that identifies mitigation and flood control options that address repetitive flood loss areas both within and outside of the regulatory flood zone. These strategies will address both historic flood losses and potential flood losses, including the identification and prioritization of infrastructure improvements and development of flood control projects, wetlands development and passive greenspace for the retention of stormwater, and removal or alteration of existing gray infrastructure, and strategies that will define areas where residential buyouts and elevations are most appropriate.
