Jail Hosted Grand Opening and Groundbreaking Ceremonies - The Horry County Sheriff's Office hosted a Grand Opening Ceremony for Phase 1 of the Minimum Security addition at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, located at 4150 J. Reuben Long Avenue in Conway. H.G. Reynolds Company, Inc. began construction in September 2007 on the two, 64-bed addition, which will be medium low-risk dormitory housing units. Property Assessment Notices to be Mailed - This week, the Horry County Assessor's Office will mail approximately 25,000 assessment notices to property owners who have transferred property ownership in 2007, based on a state law that was passed last year requiring the county to re-appraise those properties. This state law has been referred to as Assessable Transfer of Interest (ATI) and Point of Sale. This new appraised value, also referred to as the fair market value, will be shown on the assessment notices and will be the basis for calculating the property taxes that will be billed in October . . . more

Lewis Family's Cemetery Ceremony - The Lewis family, along with Horry County Planning Staff and the Horry County Board of Architectural Review, will host a small ceremonial gathering at the family's cemetery to commemorate the history of their family and their contributions to the heritage of Horry County. The ceremony will be held on August 2, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. The cemetery is located at the intersection of M.W. Stroud and Tranquil Road, just North of Highway 917. The Lewis Cemetery was added to the Horry County Historic Property Register on April 22, 2008, and a plaque will be provided recognizing and honoring this special date . . . more
Washington's Southern Tour Historic Marker - A new historic marker titled Washington's Southern Tour, will be erected to replace the Jeremiah Vereen Historic Marker, which was lost several years ago. County Prescription Drug Discount Program Widely Used In the First Six Months - Since the implementation of the Horry County's free prescription drug discount program, 6,026 county residents filled prescriptions with the cards at discounts averaging 20.79 percent and an average price savings of $10.01 per prescription.
